What is the Internet?

The Internet is millions of computers all over the world connected together so they can exchange information.

The Internet is also known as the information superhighway because you can get information on almost anything.

The World Wide Web is part of the Internet.

People use the World Wide Web to get information and sell or buy things. The World Wide Web is made up of web pages linked together like a spider’s web.

Web pages contain information in the form of text, pictures, sound, and video.

A group of web pages that give information on the same topic make up a web site.

People also use the Internet to communicate with one another.

Electronic mail ( ) is another part of the Internet. It allows people all over the world to communicate with each other by sending electronic messages through their computers.

How do I get on the Internet?

An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is a company that allows you to connect to the Internet.

What if I don’t have a computer?

You can get on the Internet at a public library or at your school.
