FROM TASTING TO DIGESTING SENSE ORGAN – “TONGUE” TONGUE AND ITS TASTE BUDS

WHAT ARE HUMAN SENSE ORGANS ? A part of our body (such as our eyes, ears, nose, tongue or skin) that we use to see, hear, smell, taste or feel things are called Sense Organs.

TONGUE The tongue is the organ of taste. The functions of the tongue are: 1. To taste food 2. To keep food between the teeth during chewing. 3. To help swallowing 4. To help speaking.

TONGUE AND ITS TASTE BUDS On the surface of the tongue there are small, tiny bumps known as taste buds. The taste buds help us to taste the food we eat. The four different tastes are sweet, sour, salty and bitter.

Taste buds in front of the tongue taste sweet things. Taste buds at the back of tongue taste bitter things. Taste buds at the back of both sides taste sour things. Taste buds in front of both sides taste salty things.

ACTIVITY - 1 Given here are some food items. Identify their taste by tasting them.

ACTIVITY - 2 Draw the picture of a tongue and mark its taste buds. Azra Yasmin Class V-B Ev.S
