3. PARTS OF TONGUE  MOST TASTE BUDS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH PORTIONS OF TONGUE CALLED PAPILLAE.  THERE ARE FOUR MAJOR TYPES OF PAPILLAE; CIRCUMVALLATE, FUNGIFORM, FOLIATE, AND FILIFORM ON THE TONGUE.  Average length is 3.5 inches.  And an average of 10,000 taste buds with 2,000 under the tongue.  And the human mouth is host to 600 different bacteria.

4. PARTS OF TONGUE  These are the three glands that produce saliva.  They are activated more excessively when eating occurs.

5. FUNCTION  Whenever you see or smell food you automatically start to salivate to start digestive process. Saliva contains 99.5% water and the other.5% consists of enzymes that began to break down food particles.

6. FUNCTION  The tongue is equipped with many taste buds on its dorsal surface and each taste bud is equipped with taste receptor cells that can sense particular classes of taste. There are taste cells for: sweet, bitter, salty, or sour.  Another use of the tongue is to clean teeth after a meal, it helps pick out food between teeth.

7.  Chewing tobacco significantly increases chance of tongue cancer compared to smoking. Causes tongue to be unable to taste and start to decompose in mouth. Only cure is to remove from mouth. DISEASE Chewing tobacco patient’s tongue Tongue Cancer
