Chapter 7 Lesson 2 Jesus’ Divinity

Man and God Both man and worm have a body, both are creatures, and both will die. God is our creator. He is pure spirit and in infinitely greater than the greatest of all creatures. Yet, God became man and took for himself a body that he had created. He did this out of love for us so that we could see him, come to know him and the Father, and have eternal life.

How much should we thank God for the Incarnation of the Son of God? Turn to page 48. Read “The Divinity of Jesus.” What is the hidden life of Jesus? During the first thirty years of his life, did people know that he was the Son of God? What kind of life did Jesus live with Mary and Joseph? Why did Jesus live an ordinary and humble life? What virtues and values does the hidden life of Jesus teach us? What can we do to imitate the hidden life of Jesus?

The public life of Jesus What is the public life of Jesus? Where are the events of the public life of Jesus recorded in Scripture?

Read Matthew 3 Write down the role of the three persons in the Trinity in this passage. What does this say about Jesus?

Jesus Christ: True God and True Man –the hypostatic union One person – who one is. Christ He is human like us and is like us in all things except sin. Two natures – what one is. Divine + Humans He shares all God’s divine powers and attributes.

In your Bible, examples that show Jesus as God and man. Jesus as God: Mt 3:17; Mk 4:35-41;Lk 4:33-37; Jn 2:1-11 Jesus as man: Lk 4:2; 7:13; Jn 11:5; 11:35

Divinity As God, Jesus is equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is fully divine. He is all good, all loving, all powerful, all knowing, etc. As God, Jesus is perfect. He reunited man with God through his infinite Sacrifice. Jesus helps us to live in union with God by teaching us his truths and offering us the gift of grace.
