Two Themes To Study

J. Hampton Keathley, III “In the person of Jesus Christ, we have one so unique that His life cannot be explained by natural processes. His person and life defy the natural.”

. The Incarnation of the Son of God The fact of God becoming Man

The Virgin Birth The method by which God the Son became Man.

The Incarnation of the Son of God ''And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh... " (I Timothy 3:16).

J. Hampton Keathley, III “It is a truth of the greatest magnitude that God in the Person of His Son should identify Himself completely with the human race.”

John 1 :14 ''And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld His glory. the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth''

J. Hampton Keathley, III “From the infinite position of eternal Godhood to the finite limitations of manhood! Unthinkable but true!”

Scripture Speaks Galatians 4:4-5 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.

Scripture Speaks Hebrews 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death…

Scripture Speaks Romans 8:3-4 For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.

Scripture Speaks John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life

Charles T Bunting “A person may be mistaken about a lot of things and still be a Christian, but a mistake in this area exposes false profession--if you do not believe that Jesus Christ is God in Flesh, you cannot be a Christian.”

Robert L. Deffinbaugh The Christian doctrine of the incarnation expresses the conviction of Christians that this God has made himself known full, specifically and personally, by taking our human nature into himself, by coming amongst us as a particular man, without in any way ceasing to be the eternal and infinite God

The Virgin Birth Hebrews 10:5 “So when he came into the world, he said, “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me.” The human body begins in the womb.

Stephen J. Cole The virgin birth is a fundamental doctrine of the Christian faith. To deny it requires that we deny the authority and truth of the Bible, the deity and sinless humanity of Jesus Christ, and that He is the Savior as taught in Scripture.

Charles T. Bunting “Without the virgin birth He would have a sinful nature like us and would not have been qualified to become our substitute for sin. As true humanity, he could be our representative; as sinless humanity, he was qualified to die for our sins. Without the conception in the womb, he would not have been true humanity.”

The Virgin Birth Isaiah 7:14: “‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel,’ which translated means, ‘God with us.’”

The Virgin Birth Matthew 1:21-23 She will(Mary)bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son and they shall call his name Immanuel”

Stephen J. Cole “Matthew is stating that the ultimate fulfillment of Isaiah 7 meant that a woman who had not had relations with a man would bear a son and that this child was none other than God with us, God in human flesh. Mary was that woman and Jesus was her child, the promised Messiah of Israel.”

“How Can This Be?” “No natural union of a human husband and wife could ever bring God into this world. That is the core truth of the Christmas story, that the baby of Bethlehem is uniquely, “God with us.” Stephen J. Cole

“How Can This Be?” “The means God used to take on human flesh was the miraculous conception of Jesus in the womb of the virgin Mary. To affirm the full deity of Jesus Christ you must affirm His supernatural virgin birth.” Stephen J. Cole

Scripture Speaks Matthew 1:20 “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”

Scripture Speaks Matthew 1:21 Joseph took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.

Scripture Speaks Luke 1:26-35 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary.

Scripture Speaks And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be.

Scripture Speaks And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

Scripture Speaks He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

Scripture Speaks And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”

Scripture Speaks And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.

Scripture Speaks Genesis 18:14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.”

Charles T. Bunting “Without the virgin birth He would have a sinful nature like us and would not have been qualified to become our substitute for sin. As true humanity, he could be our representative; as sinless humanity, he was qualified to die for our sins. Without the conception in the womb, he would not have been true humanity.”

The Theology Of Christmas Two amazing truths that present to us the wonderful Gift God has given. We celebrate His Love and respond with Faith, Hope, and Love.
