Russian Environment By: Sarah Clancy and Ryan Dang

Environmental Issues Some Russians do not have the satisfaction of having clean water. The dirty water is cause by toxic wastes and crude sewage being dumped into the rivers. Russians encounter some of the worst air pollution in the world. Large Oil Spills are common.

How the Environment is Harming both Russia’s Citizens and Russia’s Economy? Russia’s People 1. The poor air quality is harming the children, the elders, and the adults. 2. The water and the air is causing birth defects to many children. Russia’s Economy 1. The bad water and air are destroying the natural resources so they won’t have a lot of good resources. 2.There can be many diseases from the pollutants that can harm plants and animals.

Why is Russia struggling with pollution??? 1.The large oil spills were not cleaned up. 2. Radioactive wastes were dumped into seas and rivers. 3. Heavy metals and pesticides poisoned the soil in many places. 4. Untreated sewage and toxic wastes were dumped into rivers, which brought polluted water.

Air Quality 1. Only 15% of the urban population breathes clean air. 2. In 1993, there was an estimated amount of 43.8 million pounds of pollutants released in the air. 3.In the 1900’s, Russia’s Hydrometeorlogical service reported 231 out of 292 cities exceeded MPC’s.

How can Russians prevent the awful air? They can prevent this by stopping the dumping toxic waste into the rivers. By cleaning up the oil spills. They can prevent this by getting rid of pesticides and heavy metals in the soils.

How will this help Russia’s Environment? By stopping dumping in rivers, more Russians will have clean drinking water. By cleaning up the oil spills, the pollution will decrease.

When can they produce these changes? Is it important? 1.They can produce these changes as soon as possible. They sooner they get a better environment, the better. 2. Well, depending on who you are talking to, it is important. They need the clean water and air, not only to survive, but to become a healthy community.
