Each unit maintains its own product designs and items, creating a part proliferation and no re-use across the units. This has led to effort duplication and increased design lead-times. Vision Engines has decided to capture cost estimates for the Diesel Engines from the Design stage. The manufacturing team reported frequent failures in certain engine components, leading to the scrapping of whole assemblies. Vision Engines decided to capture pertinent component data to facilitate analysis.

Copyright © 2007, Oracle. All rights reserved. Exclusion Rules Exclusion rules enable you to exclude components from a product structure for an end item or an end item revision. You can define common subassemblies once and you can use exclusion rules to exclude components when a subassembly is used in multiple end items.

Exclusion Rules-Based Structures To exclude a component from a bill structure: 1.Select an item from the Favorites list, and launch its bill. 2.Highlight the component to be excluded from the bill, right- click, and then select the Exclude action. The structure is displayed in markup mode, with the excluded component highlighted. Note: You cannot exclude components from a bill that are common to another (source) bill. 3.Save your work. You will be prompted to refresh the window in order to re- explode the bill to reflect all the changes to the bill. 4.Click Yes. The bill is displayed without the excluded component.

Exclusion Rules-Based Structures (continued) To exclude a component from a bill structure (continued): NOTE: The scope of the exclusion is restricted to the structure of the top item in the structure window. To hide, view, or remove structure exclusions: 1.Launch the structure of the item whose exclusions you want to view. 2.Select the top item in the structure and launch the View Exclusions action from the right-click menu. 3.The structure is displayed with all the excluded components appropriately highlighted.

Exclusion Rules-Based Structures (continued) To hide, view, or remove structure exclusions (continued): 4.You can hide the exclusions by highlighting the top item, and then launching the Hide Exclusions action from the right-click menu. 5.You can remove previously defined exclusions for a structure: –Highlight the top item and view exclusions defined for the structure of the item. –Select any exclusion and launch the Remove Exclusion action from the right-click menu.
