3 Joe is a Year 11 student. On a school day, he usually gets up too late to eat breakfast. None of his family eats breakfast either. Joe takes only fruit to school because he doesn’t have time to make his lunch. At interval, Joe usually buys a pie from the canteen because he likes the taste of pies and he doesn’t like the bread from which the sandwiches are made. He knows that most pies contain a lot of fat, but he wants to put on weight because his rugby coach told him that he is too small to tackle well. Joe feels insecure about being smaller than the rest of his team. Joe doesn’t eat lunch because he plays sports with his friends on the field. After school, Joe goes to rugby training and he usually eats a brand of protein bar that many of his team mates eat. He also reads sporting magazines and has seen advertisements for protein powders that promise to build muscle. Joe lives in a local community that has many fresh fruit and vegetable shops, and his family always has a lot of vegetables for the evening meal. What is one smaller goal that Joe could carry out to achieve his overall goal of enhancing (improving) his Physical Well- being? For example:  Only have a pie once a week and have other snacks for interval.  Set an alarm so he can wake up earlier to have breakfast.  Make a packed lunch the night before to take to school.

Describe something Joe needs to do to ensure his smaller goal is achieved For example:  Talk to his mum about buying him nutritious snacks from the supermarket that he could take to school and have at interval such as muesli bars, rice crackers and tuna etc.  Discuss with his parents foods they could buy in order for him to make a packed lunch to take to school.  Ensure he has a working alarm and set it for an earlier time in the mornings. Talk to his parents about buying breakfast foods he likes.

For example:  Joe’s parents may not be able to afford to buy extra foods for him order to make these extra meals.  Joe has a busy schedule already with school and rugby trainings, he may not have time to make his lunch the night before.  Joe’s friends may not be supportive in him taking on this healthier food plan and give him stick for it which could encourage him to go back to eating how he was.

For example:  Joe’s parents could be very supportive and encouraging towards his new eating patterns that they to decide to wake up earlier with him and have breakfast.  Joe’s mates become supportive and encouraging towards Joe and take on similar healthier options which helps him from being tempterd to buy any pies.  Joe’s mum helps him to make his lunch at night giving him advice on what he can pack in order to achieve a balanced diet.

12 For example: Joe’s Physical well-being will be enhanced because he will be consuming less saturated fat and more of the 6 essential nutrients. He will have more energy for activities such as rugby and his concentration levels in class will have improved.
