3 Announcements   Be sure that you check my teacher website on a regular basis.   This website contains information that you’ll need in order to do your best in this class.   Here’s how to access this site: – –Go to the Nimitz website at http://www.irvingisd.net/nimitz/ http://www.irvingisd.net/nimitz/ – –Click on Teacher Websites. – –Find my name and click on it.

8 Class Policies NO EXCEPTIONS!   The Tardy Policy must be enforced at all times. No allowances for going to the restroom or water fountain.   No food or drink in the classroom at any time, except bottles containing water.   Cell phones and other electronics must be turned off and out of sight at all times.   Doing Bell Ringers, turning in all assignments, and remediating tests (if necessary) are mandatory!

9 Class Policies NO EXCEPTIONS!   No improper computer usage. If you are doing any of the following on your laptop or the classroom desktops, I will be forced to take up your computer: – – using e-mail – – instant messaging – – surfing the Internet other that class assignments – – playing music – – watching unauthorized videos – – playing games

10 Class Policies   No headphones in class except for class assignments.   I issue restroom and water fountain passes only in special circumstances.   During lectures, please don’t visit with other students or get up out of your seat without permission.   During labs, do not go visiting at lab tables other than your own.

11 Class Policies   Please don’t congregate in the hall outside of the door before the tardy bell rings. Come on in and take your seat.   As soon as you take your seat please check the video screen for the Bell Ringer and begin working on whatever it instructs you to do.   Laptops are not allowed to be used at any time in this classroom unless you are instructed to get them out! Same goes for the desktops.   Listen to and follow directions the first time they are given – I don’t have the time (nor energy) to spend the day repeating directions.

12 Class Policies   Always have a pencil. I don’t lend pencils – I sell them, however.   Absolutely no clumping up by the door waiting for the bell at the end of the period! Never cross the red line. Better yet, stay in your desk.   In addition, never cross the red line around my desk unless you are invited.   Never, ever, ever get into any of my cabinets or drawers unless you are asked to do so

13 Behavior Plan Off-task behavior includes: nonconformity to class rules, talking or making a disruption when the teacher is talking, head down on desk, eating or drinking in the classroom (except water), failure to come to class with proper materials, silliness, horseplay, and crowding the door or crossing the red line while waiting for the bell. Also, anything else that annoys the teacher. First Offence – Verbal warning Second Offence - Teacher/Student conference with required corrective action Third Offence – Teacher/Student conference and call home to parent/legal guardian; 15 minute detention,Fourth Offence – Teacher/Student conference and call home to parent/legal guardian, and 30 minute after-school detention Fifth and Further Offences - Referral Please make wise choices!

14 Expectations   If I ask for your attention, please be silent immediately and pay attention!   No foul language (if you think you might not be able to say it… don’t!) ‏   If you have a question, raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged.   If I ask a question and you have the answer, raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged – please don’t shout out answers.

15 Expectations   Put anything that you want to give me into the tray at the front desk.   Please go to the restroom and get a drink before you come to this class, but don't be late!   DO NOT get up out of your desk without permission during formal class activities.

16 Supplies Needed for Class   #2 pencils with erases   A pencil sharpener   A box of facial tissue   A ½”, 3-hole binder   A laptop computer – you must have a laptop to participate in this class – no exceptions nor excuses.

17 Tardy Policy   Definition of “tardy” - not being inside the threshold of the classroom door when the tardy bell stops ringing.   If you are tardy, you must go to a Tardy Station and get a tardy slip before you can enter the classroom.

18 Tardy Policy   Tardy records are cumulative for the semester.   If you are more than 30 minutes late to class, it is considered an absence.   I must write an office referral after every five tardies in this class.

19 Absence Policy   If you miss a class due to absence, it is your responsibility to get the work you missed from the shelves at the front of the room. If you have questions, ask me.   If you are absent on the day of a lab, you must do a make-up activity. The lab itself cannot be made up.   All missed work, including tests, is due after the number of days equal to the number of days that you were absent.

20 Grading Policy   We will usually have two major tests per six-weeks. Each will count as a summative grade.   Two labs combined will count as one summative grade.   Three quizzes combined will count as one summative grade.   Each six-weeks we will have a minimum of five summative grades.   Grades will also be given in Work Habits and Behavior.

21 Proper Headings and Titles   The following information must appear on all work to get full credit: – – First and last name – – Period

22 Keep the Classroom Neat and Clean   The classroom, including both the desk area and the lab area, should be kept neat and clean at all times.   Please make a mental note of what the classroom looks like when you enter the room and leave it that way at the end of the period.   All lab tables should look exactly like they looked when you first saw them. If they don’t, -10 points off of the lab.   All lab stools should be pushed up under the lab tables. If they aren’t, -10 points off of the lab.   You should always wash your hands after performing lab activities!

23 Today’s Paperwork   Please be sure that you’ve completely filled out all of the requested information on the Chemistry Class Information Sheet and t urn it in before you leave class today!   Please sign and have your parents sign the Class Procedures and Expectations sheet and turn it in by Wednesday!

24 Check the Lunch Schedule This year, lunch is during 5 th period! If you don't know which lunch you have, go over to the goggles cabinet and check the list. Look for your 5th period teacher’s room number. A Lunch – After 4 th period, go directly to lunch. B or C Lunch - After 4 th period go directly to 5th period.
