3 CAREER COUNSELLING -who you are, opportunities/trends, admission requirements—get paid to do what you love ACADEMIC COUNSELLING -select courses of study, resolve timetable problems, study skills—keep your options open PERSONAL COUNSELLING -suggestions, confidentiality, referral—share in a safe, supportive environment

4  4 credits in English (9, 10, 11, 12)—not EWC, EMS, etc.  3 credits in Math (at least one 11/12)—both?  2 credits in Science  1 credit in Canadian History  1 credit in Canadian Geography  1 credit in the Arts  1 credit in Health & Physical Education  1 credit in French  0.5 credit in Civics & 0.5 credit in Careers  1 GROUP 1 (extra English or French*, Social Science, Canadian/World Studies, Guidance, Co-op*)  1 GROUP 2 (extra Health/Phys Ed, Arts, Business, French*, Co-op*)  1 GROUP 3 (extra Science, Tech, Computers, French*, Co-op*) *max. 2 credits in co-op and 2 in French count as compulsory

6  U (11/12) = University Preparation; entrance requires 6 12U or M courses  C (11/12) = College Preparation  M (11/12) = College/University Preparation Courses  E (11/12) = Workplace Preparation  O (9 – 12) = Open courses

7  Credits earned for workplace experiential learning integrated with classroom theory  1 credit per 110-hours (22-27 school hours + 83 – 88 work placement  1 (Peer Tutoring) or 2 or 4 periods per semester  Gain work experience/Explore a career area

8  Summary of courses attempted and credits gained with percentage obtained  Full disclosure (11/12 courses) means that if a student withdraws from, repeats, or fails, that will be recorded on the OST  Repeated: one credit granted; lower mark = R  Failed: on OST  Withdrawals: show if dropped 5 days after mid-term or later; if earlier, do not show

9  Literacy requirement must be successfully completed for OSSD  Grade 10s + previously eligible —April 11, 2013  Based on Reading and Writing expectations up to and including Grade 9 curriculum  Must attempt at least once, then may choose to take OSSLC (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OLC4O1))—counts as 4 th English for OSSD but not for C/U entrance and some workplaces

10  40 hours of community involvement for OSSD  Blue forms available in Student Services  Principal pre-approval and signature  Chance to try out different career options, gain work experience, and increase sense of community belonging

11  Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) 30 credits + 40 hours + Literacy *Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC) 14 credits (7 compulsory + 7 elective) *Certificate of Accomplishment (Life Skills)

12 -graduate with a “major” -earn an enhanced diploma and transcript -focus on courses within sector of interest -certifications/training -reach-ahead experiences -2+ credits in co-op -appropriate for all destinations -Arts/Culture, Health/Wellness, Emergency/Community Services, Construction, Transportation, Energy, Environment

13  WORKPLACE  APPRENTICESHIP *secure employer first  COLLEGE *apply through OCAS by Feb 1  UNIVERSITY *apply through OUAC by Jan 16  JOINT U-C PROGRAMS *apply through OCAS and/or OUAC (e.g. Earn Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Ottawa at Algonquin College in Pembroke (OUAC))
