The Rainforest By Katie Dusek * Means vocabulary.

The Average Climate In an average year in a tropical rain forest, the climate is very humid. Mostly because of rainfall, which is about 20 inches per year. It is found near the *equator. That means that there is more direct sunlight hitting the land and sea than anywhere else.

Plants The plants in the rainforest are very large and bright. It has a lot of bamboo. One of the many flowers there is the Bougainvillea. It has Bright pink peddles. The temperature is very humid there, so they need to be able to *absorb a lot of water in order to live. Some of the main plants are- Curare (a large leaf that is often called an “elephant ear”), Durian (a very tall tree that grows to be about 90 to 130 feet), and the Mangrove Forests ( their roots look like large bowls so they can live on the edge of where the rain forest meets the ocean)

Animals The animals need to be able to live in thick muggy areas. Which means, no Polar bears. The “ king of the forest” is our very own mascot. That’s right, the tiger. Another type of animals that are common are monkeys. From howler monkeys to chimpanzees, there is never a quite moment in the rain forest. Even in the night the bats, owls, and some types of mammals are *nocturnal.

Location The rainforest is right next to the equator. That’s why it is so hot and muggy.

Vocabulary Equator- The imaginary line in the middle if the earth. Absorb- To take in, consume. Nocturnal- To sleep in the day and eat at night.

Work cited Okay so there is this one web site with ALL of the information, so I got it all from there!! http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/rainforest.htm
