Christian Lifestyles Chapter 1

 Please answer the following in your notebook to the best of your ability. ◦ Describe a recent situation in which you were too dependent on other people (for example: parents or friends) and briefly explain how this situation impacted you positively or negatively.  This reflection should take approx 5 – 7 minutes and you should have at least a paragraph of quality reflection on the above statement.

 Identity: An understanding of who we are based on experience, knowledge, and the growth process.  Feelings, wants, what people tell us, our talents, and aspects of ourselves that we cannot control.  Identity forms our self-esteem  Autonomy: A power or control of self.  True autonomy includes the need for interdependence rather than solely dependence.  (Reference CCC 343, 355, and 791).

 The transitions that we go through shape our identity, which in turn relates to our self- esteem. We need to remember that we are still social beings and connected to other people.  Adolescent transitions are based on a goal of gaining freedom and independence. ◦ Young Adults recognize the need for balance between independence and interdependence, which is only possible with a healthy Support Structure.

 Who currently makes up your support structure?  Why is it sometimes difficult to accept support from other people?  What are the most important forms of support that all of us seem to search out?

1. Developing a Sense of Identity How do I begin to understand who I am?

◦ Need to balance: independence with interdependence ◦ We are all social beings who strive to connect with others on the simplest of levels. ◦ It is becoming easier to connect as the information highways collide and the world really does seem to get smaller as your autonomy grows.

 Value your won education and share your ideas with the world.

 Whatever you choose to do with your life…  Do it with Love  Do it with Dedication  Do it with Diligence  Do it with Intelligence  Do it with Passion  Do it with FAITH!

5. Selecting a career and taking an adult job.

 6. Constructing and Living out a Value System  Mission Statement Notre Dame de la Baie Academy, as an educational ministry of the Roman Catholic Church, educates the whole person by developing each student's Christian faith, commitment to service, and full academic potential within a caring Church community.  VALUES: Faith, Respect, Responsibility, Service, and Trustworthiness  Core Faith Values – based on LOVE and the teachings of Jesus and the lessons from Scripture.

 Sexuality: is an attraction of a physical nature to another person and acceptance of sexual orientation.

 Intimacy: A closeness to another person or group of people.

Upholding a pledge, dedication, or obligation…

 Acceptance and understanding of the Catholic Church and Christian Doctrine within ones life.

Accepting the call to be an active member of the local support structure of a community; whether social, professional, or faith based.

 In order to fully accept and achieve each of these tasks you need to have a strong sense of who you are and what you want out of life.  Identity  Autonomy  Balance between interdependence and independence  Take the next 5 minutes to Complete the Hand-out!

 Directions: Within the context of a maximum of two, typed, double-spaced pages, write a reflection about one of the following scripture passages.
