4 Start of Monotheism What is a covenant?
1800 B.C.E- Abraham began to worship 1 God and started Judaism Judaism was considered the first monotheistic religion The Hebrews lived in Canaan for some time before moving to Egypt

5 Jews in Egypt Who do you think the “Children of Israel” are?

6 Moses God chose Moses to lead the Jews out of Egypt towards Freedom
Moses was given a set of Laws called the “Ten Commandments” Provided guidance for worship 2) Rules for behavior 3) Did not mention punishment These Commandments were to be followed by any person escaping Egypt

7 Torah Torah: means “to teach” in Hebrew.
Consists of the first 5 books of the Hebrew Bible Very sacred, Holy text The Torah is a set of moral codes that all Jews must follow & also contains stories from the past.

Most important trade route at Carthage, North Africa Why?

9 Phoenician Alphabet After cuneiform got up to 700 different characters, the Phoenicians created a new alphabet that would be the basis for ours today.

11 Lydians Stamped marking on gold pieces to indicate value.
Coins made trade simpler and easier
