2 Chapter 27: Summary It is late at night and Huck must hide money he has taken from the con men. He places it in the coffin of Peter Wilkes. The money is buried with the dead man, leaving Huck to wonder if it will ever be recovered. After the funeral, Huck manages to convince the con men that the Wilkes's slaves stole the cash.

3 Chapter 28: Summary Huck comforts Jane Jane is told the truth by Huck out convicts and money Jane is convinced to to leave before breakfast by Huck Huck gives Jane a note stating where the money is Huck lies to Susan about where Jane went Huck is able to keep quiet and not draw attention to Jane’s absents s:

4 Chapter 29: Summary Later, the people who the con men are posing as come into town. There is a big dispute about which pair is the real one. After trying to settle things with a writing test, the undertaker asks about a tattoo. $6,ooo discovered in coffin after the corpse is checked for the tattoo. Huck steals a canoe and him and Jim go off. Huck thinks he has escaped from King and Duke.

5 Huck Finn Lesson: A) Huck learns that it is better to be proactive and not allow bad things to happen if he can prevent it. B) Huck realizes in the chapters that telling the truth about the con men and getting Mary Jane her money is the right thing to do. 6 Literary Analysis: Part 1 Diction: The sentence structure shows the degree of education a character has. Example: “‘That’s the name,’” I says, “‘I most forgot it. Well, Miss Mary Jane she told me to tell you she's gone over there in a dreadful hurry’” (Twain 173).

7 Literary Analysis: Part 2 Figurative Language: Though scarce, Twain uses figurative language to paint a picture. Example: “ The duke he never let on that he suspicioned what was up, but just went a goo-gooing around, happy and satisfied, like a jug that’s googling out buttermilk”( Twain 199).

8 Literary Analysis: Part 3 Theme: Need to be aware of what is going on around you. Don’t just act to benefit yourself, but others too. Example: “Of course I wanted to slide down and get out of there but I dasn’t try it”(Twain 183).

9 Study Guide: Question #6 Why does Huck say at the end of Ch. 28, “Tom Sawyer couldn't ‘a’ done it no neater himself. Of course he would ‘a’ throwed more style into it, but I can't do that very handy, not being brung up to it”? Huck isn’t as accustomed to doing “good deeds” like Tom is (as seen in the quote). Huck is acknowledging the fact that he is doing good, though not as skillfully due to lack of practice.

10 Study Guide: Question #7 Why is the crowd laughing and shouting as they bring the second set of “Wilkes brothers” to the square? The crowd is laughing and shouting, because they think that the fakes are the "real deal” and they are making fun of them for trying to trick the crowd.

11 Study Guide: Question #8 What disappointment does Huck face at the end of Ch. 29? Huck was disappointed because he thought he had escaped from Duke and the Dauphin. Huck was wrong and this saddened him.
