Important Tip #1  Know your subject  Research your subject  Gather enough information  Organize your information and have a good structure, so the audience can follow easily Example: numbers

Important Tip #2  Get familiar with your environment  Your Audience (how many people, where they are sitting)  Room Size

Important Tip #3  Focus on your message, not on yourself  Don’t concentrate on what you look like or what you’re wearing  Concentrate on what you have to say, not on what the audience thinks of you Example: Swami Vivekananda

Important Tips #4  Use hand gestures  When you first start speaking, keep your hands by your sides  After a while, you’ll automatically start gesturing naturally

Important Tips #5  Get your voice ready  Don’t say things in the same speed, pitch, or volume (it’s boring!)  Don’t talk too fast  Watch videos of people with experience  Practice!!!

Important Tips #6  Eye Contact  Make a connection with the audience In a play, we look at each other, but in public speaking, we look at the audience  Don’t swivel your head fast

Important Tips #8  Opening Your Speech  10 seconds to grab the audience’s attention  Ask a question, say a quote, or a true fact “Ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country can do for you.” ~John F. Kennedy  Closing Your Speech  Summarize what you said before  Call-to-action  Give them something to remember

Important Tips #9  Stop Saying ums and ahs  It’s a habit that you can get out of  Rather than saying ums or ahs, pause, close your mouth, then go on to the next sentence

Important Tips #10  Making Mistakes While Speaking  It’s OK to make mistakes “Show me a person who has never made a mistake, and I’ll show you a person who has never made anything.”
