The teacher will check for completion and review when necessary. Occasional large projects-support given in class Contracts include Study Island, IXL, and Reading Log Parents can access reports to check understanding and completion of homework. www.ixl.com

9 This is what is an example of what is on the board each morning.

10 This is an example of a homework contract. It should be signed each night and turned in on Friday. Please note the directions regarding time vs. mastery. You need to answer at least 10 questions on each skill and master the skill or work for 15 minutes in order to receive full credit.

11 Positive Behavior Support Dolphin golds- given to students throughout the day by teachers recognizing responsible, respectful, and/or ready behavior Monthly Assemblies- held to recognize individual students and classes for the 3R’s Dolphin Pride Necklaces

12 Consequences In order to promote physical activity, we are working hard to have consequences that do NOT take away recess. Students are given warnings. Behaviors are recorded in the agenda or in the Friday folder. Parents are notified by phone after a student has broken rules or procedures of the class many times in one day. Students “flip a card” when they are given a warning or a consequence.

13 Additional Support Reading support- Mrs. Plummer is our reading specialist and identifies students with needs in reading for small group support. In addition, teachers monitor on going progress of all students and provide in class support. Enrichment- Groups are formed based on student needs and meet 5 times a week for a half hour in Reading and Math. Guidance- Small groups to help students with social needs in specific areas and biweekly classes for everyone. English Language Support- students as English as a second language will be support by ESL teacher-Mrs. Hall.

Drama Club- Ms. Cordeiro (Lead Director of the Play) and Mr. Jalbert (Music director) hold auditions in the late Fall for the School Play. Chorus- Students meet on Wednesday afternoons and during the school day. Band and Orchestra- Information has been passed out regarding sign ups and lessons are being held during the school day.

15 Example of Expected Student Response (using RARE) EQ- What kind of strategies can be used to solve subtraction problems? Student Response: Two of my favorite kinds of strategies I use to solve subtraction problems are Subtracting in Parts and Adding Up. To subtract in parts, you must break apart the number you are subtracting by place value. For example, 857-235 would be 800, 50, and 7 subtract 200, 30, and 5. When Adding Up, you take the smaller number and choose landmark numbers to add to it until you reach the larger number. Then add the landmark numbers together to get the answer. For examples, you could add 500 to 235 = 735. Then add 100 + 735= 835. Now I would add 20 + 835= 855. And finally, add 2 + 855= 857. Don’t forget to go back and “add up” the numbers you added. So 500+100+20+2= 622. The answer is 857- 235=622.

16 Thank you for coming! I look forward to working with you to make sure your child has a positive and successful school year. Your support is greatly appreciated.
