5 Historical and Biblical Significance 5 Sidon is mentioned very early in the biblical record. Noah's great- grandson was named Sidon. It is possible that Sidon gave his name to the city because of the territory of Canaan, Sidon's father, which extended from the city of Sidon to Gaza in the south (Gen 10:15,19).During the northern campaign of the Conquest, Joshua defeated the coalition of northern kings and pursued them as far as Sidon (Josh 11:8). Joshua assigned the surrounding region to the tribe of Asher (Josh 19:28). Joshua 11:8 8 And the Lord delivered them into the hand of Israel, who defeated them and chased them to Greater Sidon, to the Brook Misrephoth, and to the Valley of Mizpah eastward; they attacked them until they left none of them remaining.

6 Tyre and Sidon – Woman of Canaan came to Jesus to ask Him to heal her daughter Called a Greek Syro-Phoenician (Mark 7:26) Tyre and Sidon were the two main cities of Phoenicia Later the Romans included it as part of the province of Syria 6 Gospel in Geography

7 7 Mark 3:8 and Jerusalem and Idumea and beyond the Jordan; and those from Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard how many things He was doing, came to Him.

8 8 Genesis 10:19 19 And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; then as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. One of the oldest Phoenician cities, situated on a narrow plain between the range of Lebanon and the Sea
