Tariq Khan

Storm Can we change the weather?

What do we need to know? Why does it rain? How do clouds form? Can knowing this information help us predict or change weather? What are the main factors which influence climate change?

What are the main parts of the weather cycle? Evaporation Condensation Precipitation

Evaporation What occurs during evaporation? Heat from the Sun makes water rise into the air as vapor extends into the skies forming clouds

Condensation What is condensation? Water is in a gaseous state in the air When it cools down it turns into vapor This vapor materializes in the form of cloud droplets

Precipitation What is precipitation? Term often used by meteorologists Water falling to the Earth’s surface due to gravitational pull is called precipitation Can take the form of rain, sleet, hail or snow

How does it all work together?

Integrating Ideas EvaporationPrecipitationCondensation

Use of Technology Students will watch a YouTube video in class demonstrating the experiment Students who miss the lab will be able to view the video and conduct the experiment to catch up with the rest of the class Video is accessible through the class website, students can watch it on their own time Additional Links are provided for further inquiry Students use spreadsheets and temperature logging software to record their findings

Worksheet The lab worksheet will give the steps needed to conduct the experiment There is an additional page to the worksheet integrating all the main concepts related to the lab outside of condensation (the other topics are covered in class)
