2. What is symbiosis?
Symbiosis- a relationship between two different species that live on, in or near each other

3. What are the kinds of symbiosis?
Commensalism
Mutualism
Parasitism

4. What is commensalism?
Commensalism- a symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is not affected

5. Examples of commensalism
Birds and cows
Birds feed on insects. When cows eat or graze they stir up bugs making them easier to find for birds. The bird benefits because it gets food and the cow is not affected. (this would not be a kind of bird who eats the bugs off cows)
Frogs and Trees
The trees protect the frogs from the rain but receive no benefit or harm

6. What is mutualism?
Mutualism- a symbiotic relationship in which both organisms are benefited

7. Examples of mutualism Bees and Flowers
Bees pollinate flowers allowing them to reproduce. The bees then in return get food.
Clownfish and anemones Clownfish live in anemones and predators may get poisoned by the anemone’s nematocysts keeping the clownfish safe and giving them a place to live. In Return the clownfish cleans the anemone. Nematocysts- a specialized cell containing a barbed or venomous coiled thread that can be projected in self-defense or to capture prey.

8. What is parasitism?
Parasitism- a symbiotic relationship in which the parasite benefits and the host is harmed

9. Examples of parasitism
Humans and Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes use (in this example, there are many more things other than) humans as a food source. They land on the skin and suck out some of your blood, making a meal for them and an irritating itch for us and maybe a disease.
Dog and Ticks the dog loses nutrients, harming it, and the tick is getting nutrients that it needs benefiting it.

10. What is Competition?
Competition- when organisms compete for what they need, such as food, shelter/territory, mate, etc.

12. Examples of Competition
Deer Deer often fight against each other for things such as a mate.
Wolves
Wolves and wolf packs often fight against each other so they can claim their territory. If a wolf claimed its territory and other wolves try to claim it they fight.

13. What is Cooperation
Cooperation- When two organisms work together to get something they need.

14. Examples of Cooperation
Hammer head shark and barber fish
A hammer head shark in the ocean may look for company. This company is found in barber fish. These fish give company to the shark and rub up against its rough skin and that helps the fish get parasites and other unneeded things off of them
A wolf Pack In a wolf pack the members have to work together to help survive. They have certain jobs to make it easier.

15. What is Predation
Predation- when one animal is the predator and (usually) the smaller weaker animal is the prey

16. Examples of Predation Hawk and Rabbit
A hawk soaring in the sky may see a rabbit and go after it and eat it. Making the hawk a predator and the rabbit the prey.
Snake and mouse A snake would go after a mouse and eat it. By doing this the snake is the predator and the mouse is the prey.
