Gas System Construction Status Oct. 2005 FH

General Construction is proceeding well, (nearly on-schedule). Testing of Racks is longer than foreseen Testing = leak test and functional test of a module –Problems: Limited in manpower and facilities. A real bottleneck for the next 6 months

Distribution Modules ATLAS Distribution finished, testing still continued. –Some ageing problems with bad joints from A+P, which require modification. –Taken decision not to move the installation schedule, if an intervention is required it has to be done at the pit. Distribution Rack Construction of: –LHCb Muon construction ongoing, first deliveries end of Oct. OT: construction stopped bco. design change; ECR to come. RICH: construction nearly finished (2 racks) –ALICE: TOF (2 racks) ongoing. HMPID will start soon (1 rack; complicated) –ATLAS (ID-flushing): TRT barrel flushing: construction on-going (1 rack) CO2 and N2 flushing systems: construction on-going (2 racks)

Pre-Distribution Construction of CMS modules is starting this week as foreseen. (on critical path for CMS) LHCb pre-distribution will follow ( start not before next year) No big needs for ATLAS and ALICE.

Other Modules Mixer: construction finished, testing still pending for 5 racks. Pump Modules: Construction finished, changes to come for MDT, most of the testing to be done. Exhaust Module: Pipework mostly finished, Cabling and tests to be done. Humidifier: construction and cabling done, tests to be done.

Update on Targets from last Steering Meeting (June 2005)

Targets for next 6 Months (1) 1.Finnish all distribution units until end 0f 2005. 2.Start Pre-Distribution by October 2005, so that we have chance to finish CMS part before April 2006. 3.Deliver all gas racks + control chassis for: Mixer, Exhaust and Pump Modules to experimental sites. Construction and Setting up of Modules From Steering Meeting in June Good progress, but + 1 months is likely On schedule, work started this week On schedule.

Targets for next 12 months (2) ALICE: (Summer 2005) –Finnish TPC Installation –Connect Mixers in ALICE, install control racks in SG ATLAS: (Sept. 05 to April 06) –Install in SG (60-80%) –Install in US (60-80%) –Deliver all racks in UX (Pipe connections done by ATLAS and TS) –Install auxiliaries (valve islands, valve controllers, back-up systems, etc.) –Start commissioning of RPC system in April 2006 As of Beginning of 2006, increase manpower further and start working in CMS and LHCb. Installation on Experimental Sites From Steering Meeting in June Longer than expected, but steady progress. Finished by November Done. On-going, we do everything To maintain the schedule.
