2. Intro to Caribbean slavery Between 1662 and 1807 Britain shipped 3.1 million Africans across the Atlantic Ocean in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Africans were forcibly brought to British owned colonies in the Caribbean, and sold as slaves to work on plantations. Note, although slavery was outlawed in all British colonies in 1833, some islands in the caribbean still continued it for almost 50 more years.

3. Transportation of Slaves British, French, and Dutch ships transporting slaves between Guinea and their Caribbean possessions, took at least 60 to 90 days. As the slave trade was just starting, mortality rates were as high as 50% for a single trip. As the trade augmented and conditions improved, mortality rates eventually declined to about 5% –Of all slaves delivered to the western hemisphere, about 50% went to Caribbean destinations
