The 29th Olympic Games will be held in Beijing in 2008. People all over the world have eyes on it. It will be one of the greatest international sports meetings for people who love peace. However, during the course of delivering the Olympic torch, some Tibet-independent members and lawless persons try to sabotage and resist it. I am sure anyone who want to relate Olympic Games with politics and sabotage Olympic Games will certainly be punished sooner or later. China has already prepared everything for the Olympic Games. The Chinese athletes are training hard now in order to win medals and set new world records when the time comes. Many new buildings and stadiums have been built, roads have been widened, and all the places are well decorated to welcome the guests from around the world. As a student, I am proud of China, and will cheer for the players then.

Step 2 Read and ansower 1.Why should’t you clone an extinct animal unless there is enough diversity in the group? 2.Why is it wrong to clone an extinct animal if it would have to live in a zoo? 3.Why can’t you clone the DNA of animals that have been extinct longer than 10,000 years?

1.Why should’t you clone an extinct animal unless there is enough diversity in the group? 2. Why is it wrong to clone an extinct animal if it would have to live in a zoo? There will not be enough genetic variation in the group to be able to resist new illnesses. It is not a good idea to clone an animal that would have to live in a zoo because it is not a suitable habitat to develop and increase its numbers. The zoo is not a natural environment for a wild animal.

3. Why can’t you clone the DNA of animals that have been extinct longer than 10,000 years? The DNA of animals more than 10,000 years old is not suitable for cloning, for it can’t survive so long.

Step 3 discussing May the best animal win ! Which extinct animals are worth restoring by means of cloning? Choose one and use the information to help you argue why this animal should be restored to the earth.

Great Auk (1844) Auroch (1627) Dodo bird (1755) Quagga (1883)

I would like to choose the second one --- Dodo bird. I think it is the most suitable animal to be cloned for the following reasons: Firstly, it became extinct fairly recently, so its DNA is still in good condition. Secondly, the Dodo bird was always be described as a very friendly animal and human beings wouldn't be afraid of it. So it would make a good pet. Finally, the Dodo bird's large eggs and tasty meat could be developed for food. In a word, I prefer Dodo– the lovely bird, to be restored to the earth.
