1 HOMEROOM10/03/14 Write these important dates in your agenda: Monday - Friday (10/20-10/24) – Conference Week (Early Release) Book Fair Week Write a letter to our troops! For every handwritten, well-thought letter that you write, you can earn a Brain Buck! We will send these letters to the Bert Show and they will ship our letters to troops who are deployed during Thanksgiving. See the handout as an example.

2 E.L.T. 10/03/14 Get a copy of “The Essential 55” book and: Warm Up: Read for ten minutes. Work Session: Read “The Giver” in your magazine. Closing: Complete the corresponding worksheet and submit it.

3 LANGUAGE ARTS – WARM UP 10/03/14 FRUIT  Sit in your FRUIT teams.  Get a warm up sheet.  Warm Up  “Maniac Magee” Quiz  Remember: Journals should be at least one or more paragraphs.

4 10/03/14 Essential Question: How do authors use characterization to bring their characters to life? Standard: ELA.6.RL.3 – Describe how a particular story’s or drama’s plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution.

5 LANGUAGE ARTS – WORK SESSION 10/03/14  Characteristics of Maniac Magee Life-Sized Posters  In your groups…  Have one person lay down on the paper.  Have another person trace this person.  Using your notes from class this week, create a life-sized poster with character attributes for MANIAC MAGEE. You will need a total of four items for each of the following character analysis categories: 1.Maniac’s Thoughts 2.Maniac’s Actions 3.Maniac’s Appearance 4.Maniac’s Statements * If you finish early, add color!  This poster is due today! So, stay on task.

6 LANGUAGE ARTS – CLOSING SESSION 10 / 03/14 Closing Session Be sure EACH PERSON from your group has their name written legibly in the same location on the back of your poster. Clean up all materials and prepare for dismissal. HOMEWORK: Your homework packet was due yesterday! Add to your reading logs.
