1 HOMEROOM10/02/14 Write these important dates in your agenda: Monday - Friday (10/20-10/24) – Conference Week (Early Release) Book Fair Week Write a letter to our troops! For every handwritten, well-thought letter that you write, you can earn a Brain Buck! We will send these letters to the Bert Show and they will ship our letters to troops who are deployed during Thanksgiving. See the handout as an example.

2 E.L.T. 10/02/14 Get a copy of “The Essential 55” book and: Warm Up: Read for ten minutes. Work Session: Complete the worksheet labeled “There vs. Their” and “Correct Capitalization”. It is due today. Closing: Read your “Scholastic Scope” magazine OR Read a book of your choice.

3 LANGUAGE ARTS – WARM UP 10/02/14 FRUIT  Sit in your FRUIT teams.  Get a warm up sheet.  Warm Up: Journal Response  After you write your journal, then draw Maniac as you see him now that we’ve read ten chapters.  Remember: Journals should be at least one or more paragraphs.

4 10/02/14 Essential Question: How do authors use characterization to bring their characters to life? Standard: ELA.6.RL.3 – Describe how a particular story’s or drama’s plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution.

5 LANGUAGE ARTS – WORK SESSION 10/02/14  Characteristics of Maniac Magee (emoji side)  Follow the instructions listed at the bottom of the page.  Be sure to draw a line to the corresponding part of Maniac. For example, if you’re talking about the things he says, draw a line to his mouth. For the things he thinks, draw a line to his head. Etc.  Character Attribute Web/Your Traits/My Traits  Use this homework sheet to assist you.  Turn all work into the homework bin by the end of class.

6 LANGUAGE ARTS – CLOSING SESSION 10 / 02/14 Closing Session Answer the E.Q. in your agenda. Be sure to use a complete sentence as your answer. HOMEWORK: Your homework packet is due today! Add to your reading logs.
