21st February 2015

 Tom Benge – Performance Manager  Simon Talbot – Under-9 Programme Co-ordinator  Surrey CCC Performance Department  Manages & oversees Surrey Player Pathway, which identifies & develops boys & girls with a long term vision of producing cricketers for Surrey & England  We’re here to discuss the Surrey U-9 Programme and to highlight that we need your assistance

 Provide more match opportunities for Surrey players  Adjust selection basis of players from location based to ability based (equitable squads)  Provide more appropriate match formats in a progressive manner

 U-8 & U-9 Performance Courses currently running  Saturdays in January – March at the Surrey Cricket Centre  Further U-9 players located on Performance Courses at other venues  All U-8 & U-9 players will be invited to assessments (April 2015)  We anticipate seeing approximately 160 players as part of this process

 Provide an initial or further Talent ID opportunity  Assessments sessions at the Surrey Cricket Centre and the Ken Barrington Cricket Centre:  7 th / 8 th / 9 th April 2015  Consist of basic skill drills / game based practice  Players in attendance:  Invitation to all U-9 players (including U-8’s) currently on Performance Courses  Nominated players from Cricket Clubs, currently not on Performance Courses  Players are assessed – all are signposted to relevant part of U-9 pathway

 Players are signposted to:  Summer Performance Courses  U-9 Performance squads  Summer Performance Courses:  For players deemed not ready at this moment in time for Performance Cricket, are invited initially  Available places opened up to all U-9 players once initial window closed  Provide further summer opportunity to develop skills  Provide further opportunity to be observed by SCCC, with possible progression into Performance Cricket  Link back in to Junior or Performance Courses at U-9/U-10 in 2015/16 winter  U-9 Performance Squads:  5x equitable player groups  Created by SCCC Performance Dept from assessment information  Squads distributed to Performance Squad Management Teams (to be discussed)

 Performance Fixtures:  4 matches per squad  Involves selection of wide number of players identified from U-9 assessments / winter programme  Hard ball, pairs-based format (10 players per side)  Acts as a Talent ID & Talent Development opportunity for a wide group of players in an appropriate match-play programme  Fixtures = 5 x Sundays from 7 th June to 5 th July 2015  Venues = St George’s College (Weybridge) & Reed’s School (Cobham)  Simon Talbot (U-9 Programme co-ordinator) & Matt Cussans (U-9 CAG coach) act as umpires on each date  Selection into these fixtures overseen by Performance Squad Management teams based on:  Potential observed in U-9 assessments and/or winter programme  Potential observed in further Management organised training/match practices (where feasible)

 U-9 Inner County Development Cricket:  4 fixtures  Involves selection of players who require further match-play opportunities, but aren’t deemed ready for the U-9 Inner County Performance fixtures  Involves division of players into two teams on a match by match basis  Format = hard ball, pairs-based (similar to Performance fixtures)  Acts as a further Talent ID & Talent Development opportunity to see players in a match environment  Fixtures between 24 th July – 3 rd August 2015  Venues = St George’s College & Reigate Grammar School  Selection into these fixtures based on performances/potential observed in Performance fixtures & assessments/winter training  Simon Talbot & Matt Cussans (U-9 CAG Management team) oversee selection of teams in conjunction with Managers

 Inner County Performance Cricket:  5 matches  Involves selection of the ‘best’ players observed within the U-9 Performance Programme to this point  Involves division of players into two teams on a match by match basis  Format = 36 overs / 11 per side (10 field) / extra life in first 10 balls...  Acts as a further Talent ID & Talent Development opportunity to see players in a match environment  Fixtures between 24 th July – 3 rd August 2015  Venue = St George’s College & Reigate Grammar School  Selection into these fixtures based on performances/potential observed in Performance fixtures & assessments/winter training  Simon Talbot & Matt Cussans oversee selection of teams in conjunction with Performance Squad Managers and will umpire each fixture

 U-9 CAG Cricket:  4 fixtures  Involves selection of a smaller group of ‘best’ players observed within the Performance/ Inner-County Performance Programme so far  Involves matches against other counties  Format = 36 overs / 12 per side (11 field) / ‘normal’ cricket laws apply...  Fixtures between 13 th – 20 th August 2015  Venues = a variety of Cricket Clubs in Surrey (& away)  Simon Talbot & Matt Cussans (U-9 CAG Management team) oversee selection of teams in conjunction with Managers

 Players to access:  Pre-Xmas U-10 Junior Courses (Oct – Dec 2015)  Pre-Xmas U-10 Performance Courses (Nov – Dec 2015)  Highlighted players in above courses invited into post-Xmas U-10 Performance Courses (Jan – Mar 2016)  Players from post-Xmas U-10 Performance Courses are highlighted into U-10 Performance Squads for 8 match summer programme

 We need your help!!  We require volunteer Management teams to assist with each of the five Performance squads  Roles & Responsibilities of Management team are:  To manage squad through Performance fixtures  To manage and communicate selection of teams  To organise and run training sessions (where feasible)  To organise and run friendly matches (where feasible)  Liaise with Performance Dept regarding player performances (Simon Talbot / Matt Cussans)  Assist ST/MC with organisation and selection of Inner-County (Performance/Development) player groups

 Who:  Parents with strong desire to provide support to U-9 programme/Performance Dept as: ▪ Manager ▪ Assistant Manager ▪ Coach (qualifications required)  16 th April 2015:  Post-Assessment meeting to highlight: ▪ the programme in more detail ▪ key responsibilities of Management team and timeline  6 th May 2015:  Pre-Season meeting to confirm Management teams and procedure throughout summer

 It is useful to have an U-8 parent within the U-9 Performance squad Management team  This allows that parent to develop an understanding of the programme, with a view to taking on more responsibilities the following year
