Topic C.1 Lesson 1 Fitness testing methods for components of fitness

What section “C” is: ● flexibility: sit and reach test (usually measured in cm or inches) ● strength: grip dynamometer (usually measured in KgW) ● aerobic endurance: o multi-stage fitness test, known as the bleep test (usually predicted in ml/kg/min) o forestry step test (usually predicted in ml/kg/min) o definition of VO2 max (ml/kg/min): the maximum amount of oxygen uptake, usually measured in ml of oxygen per kg of body mass per minute. It is a measure of cardiorespiratory endurance. ● speed: 35m sprint (usually measured in s) ● speed and agility: Illinois agility run test (usually measured in s) ● anaerobic power: vertical jump test (usually measured in kgm/s) ● muscular endurance: one-minute press-up, one-minute sit-up (usually measured in number of reps/minute) ● body composition: o Body Mass Index (BMI) (usually measured in kg/m²) o Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), used for prediction of percent body fat o skinfold testing via the Jackson-Pollock nomogram method for prediction of percent body fat (sites for males: chest, abdominal and thigh; sites for females: triceps, suprailiac and thigh).

Outcomes All: Be able to describe different fitness tests & select the appropriate fitness test for a specific component of fitness. Most: Be able to explain why the fitness test, tests the specific component of fitness. Explain the importance of selecting the correct test Some: To justify why fitness tests are only suitable in certain situations.

What is the purpose of carrying out a fitness test? What can you identify through this? What can be tested? Fitness testing

Fitness Test Flexibility Strength Aerobic endurance Speed Agility Anaerobic Power Muscular endurance BMI Definitions

Name the component of fitness:

FITNESS TESTING Fitness tests, test a specific component of fitness; Name as many fitness tests as you can. State the component of fitness that 3 of the fitness tests are testing. Describe how you would carry out 1 fitness test

Sit & Reach Test Press Up Test Vertical Jump Test Sit Up Test Forestry Step Test BMI Test Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis Multi Stage Fitness Test 35 Metre Sprint Test Skinfold Test Illinois Agility Test Hand Grip Dynamometer

Expert You will be given 3 fitness tests to research, once the time is up you will go back to your group to present your findings. You must include: -Name of test & component of fitness tested. -Equipment you need to conduct the test. -How you conduct the test. -The advantages of the fitness test. -The disadvantage of the fitness test.

Feedback Feedback your findings to the group. Ensure your notes include: -Name of test & component of fitness tested. -Equipment you need to conduct the test. -How you conduct the test. -The advantages of the fitness test. -The disadvantage of the fitness test.

Describe to the person next to you the answer to the following questions: Name a test for Speed? Describe the sit & reach test. Give the advantages of the BMI test. Review

What fitness test should you carry out to identify your agility? Illinois Agility Test Review

BMI, Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis and Skinfold Callipers are tests that identify what? Body Composition Review

Name 3 fitness tests that you would suggest a Boxer to carry out. Hand grip – strength BMI, Skinfold, BIA – Body Composition Multistage/Forestry step – Aerobic Endurance Review

NEW LESSON

Topic C.1 Lesson 2 Fitness test methods for components of fitness

Catchphrase What is the fitness test? What component of fitness is being tested?

All will be able to describe why “practicality, validity and reliability” are important when fitness testing, know the know the advantages and disadvantages of each fitness tests, and know what should be carried out pre-testing. Most will explain what the disadvantages and advantages of the fitness tests are. Some will be able to justify why pre-test measures are important in fitness testing. Outcomes

Body Composition or How would you test for…… Strength

Name 5 fitness tests. Name the fitness component that is measured in 3 tests. Give the advantages/disadvantages of one of the fitness tests. Advantages & Disadvantages

Things to consider when selecting a fitness test: Back to back Practicality Reliability Validity

Back to back Practicality Reliability Validity Things to consider when selecting a fitness test: Having the correct equipment available to be able to carry out the test correctly The extent to which the test can be repeated, gaining similar results The extent to which a test measures what it is supposed to be measuring

Calibration Informed consent Comparison of results Safely select tests Why are these important? Think, Pair, Share

Complete the questions on the map You decide which order to complete Question Map

Describe to the person next to you the answer to the following questions: What is reliability? How is the sit & reach test a reliable test? What equipment is needed for the sit & reach test? When considering practicality, how does the hand grip test meet this? Is the multi stage fitness test a reliable test for Speed? What component of fitness is this a test for? Review

Exam questions

Who would do better? vs In the Illinois Agility Test? Roadrunner Jerry

Due – next lesson Link all fitness tests to a component of fitness - How does the fitness test, test the specific component? Home Learning
