3. Classroom Rules Verbal Warning “Refocus” 1 time: “freebie” 2 times: out a recess for a short period of time to “practice” or reflect 3 times: calendar will be marked with a number and/or note

4. GRADES Number grades are given in 1 st Grade Papers sent home weekly with parent signature page All grades may not be reflected by papers sent home (hands on activities participation, math and science notebooks, labs, etc.) Set up a username and password for Parent Portal to check.

5. Spelling Words based on spelling patterns covered and reviewed daily Words introduced and sent home on Mondays 2 homework activities by Friday Sight Words (words that cannot be sounded out/coded) number varies weekly tested weekly (stamp on back of sight word card..3 stamps and it is removed need volunteers to commit WEEKLY to test and review words PLEASE KEEP THE SIGHT WORD RING IN THE IMPORTANT POCKET OF THE PAWS FOLDER. ☺ What are these weird marks on my child’s paper??? Our spelling words and sight words are from Saxon Phonics Program. It is a systematic, research based program that PISD has successfully used for several years.

6. Red Reading Books -State Adopted Reading Textbook One way that comprehension skills are taught and monitored Please return to school daily. Paperback Leveled Readers from this series may be sent home periodically for enrichment purposes. Please take care of them because they are costly to replace!!!!

7. HOMEWORK SHOULD TAKE NO MORE THAN 10-15 MINUTES A NIGHT. If it is taking longer, please contact your child’s teacher. Sight Words (daily) Reading (3 nights a week) Spelling Homework (2 activities per week) Rocket Math (math facts-later in school year)

8. What is Daily 5? Word Work Read to Self Read with Someone Listen to Reading Work on Writing

9. TPRI and MCLASS Testing State adopted testing for reading (TPRI) and math (mclass) Administered 3 times a year Administered by classroom teacher (usually) in one on one setting Used as a diagnostic tool for Response to Intervention (RTI)

10. A.R. ●1 st Grade students check 2 books out from the library. One is supposed to be leveled, other is purely free choice. ●A.R. is used primarily for enrichment purposes in 1 st Grade. ●Students may begin testing on these books at his/her teacher’s discretion. ●AR Kickoff will be after Book Character Day on Oct. 2.

11. Ipads: 4 per class, used in class and in technology for enrichment activities Snacks: will be independent after we go through class list (Bring snacks daily. We will not store them….to avoid having unwelcome critters!!) Jackets-bring..we go outside unless raining or temp below freezing Parent/School Compacts...PLEASE SIGN! :) OTHER ITEMS…
