1 Chapter 4, Section 3 Key Terms and People Ibn Battutah Definition: A muslim who traveled to Africa, India, China and Spain in the 1320s Sufism Definition: A movement that teaches that people can find God’s love by having a personal relationship with God. It had a strong impact on Islam. Omar Khayyam Definition: A famous Sufi poet who wrote about his faith, hope and other emotions in a book known as The Rubaiyat.

P.96 A: Sufism was a new Muslim spiritual philosophy that taught that people can find God’s love by having a personal relationship with God. It began as a response to a new focus on spiritual issues. 23. What are some characteristic features of mosques? 10 Test Time 40 Minutes 1. Take out a lined piece of paper and: A. HEAD IT B. TITLE IT “Spread of Islam Test” C. WRITE “ID: ” (make sure to fill in the ID when you get the test. D. NUMBER IT 1-25 (don’t skip spaces). E. Clean up your area and pack up.
