1. BIOBLITZ IS COMING TO HAVO! May 15-16, 2015

I ka nānā no a ‘ike… By observing one learns Hawai ‘i Volcanoes BioBlitz and Biodiversity and Cultural Festival May 15-16, 2015 Together we observe and learn about the living creatures in the park and the many links between its plants, animals, the volcanic environment, traditional people, and our daily lives

3. What is a BioBlitz? A celebration of the biological diversity in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park cohosted by National Geographic. Ours will be the 9th in a series of 10 annual in the lead up to the centennial celebration of the National Park Service in 2016.

4. A 24-hour event in which volunteer scientists, indigenous knowledge experts, families, students, teachers and other community members come together to identify and learn about the many species of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms in the park. What Happens at a BioBlitz? The smart phone app iNaturalist is used to photograph, map, and record data

5. A 48-hour festival and exhibits celebrating biodiversity with partners local, state, fed, NGOs, academic, research, conservation and community organizations

6. Connect both youth and adults to scientific and traditional ecological knowledge experts to promote scientific exploration and the awareness of the interconnectedness among the native plants and animals, the environment, traditional people, and our daily lives.

Participate… Lead teams of students and the general public in conducting field inventories; or lead targeted inventories learning events, and demonstrations identify and verify collected or photographed taxa for the official BioBlitz tally Festival exhibits and programs Logistics during the 48 hr event, pre-event set up and take down Events leading up to the Bioblitz

9. An opportunity to connect scientists, indigenous knowledge experts, students, island communities, and partners to the park MAHALO!
