2 Mission Statement The mission of Rocky River is to teach students through a rigorous and relevant curriculum while fostering caring, respectful relationships in a safe, healthy environment.

3 Vision Statement The vision of Rocky River is to prepare students to be successful lifelong learners in a diverse and globally competitive society.

4 About Rocky River  We first opened in 1997  2 Kindergarten Splash Spanish Immersion classes currently in 2015-2016  2016-2017 we hope to have a total of 8 Splash classes in Kindergarten and 1 st grade  Each year we will grow our Splash program to add a grade level until we have Splash K-5.

5 About Rocky River  Demographics  820 Students (48 Splash students)  23 % Hispanic  30 % African American  41% White  6 % Other  70 % Economically Disadvantaged

7 What is Splash?  Dual Language Spanish Immersion  Students learn one day in Spanish and one day in English – learning the curriculum in 2 languages.  The students will have 2 teachers – 1 VIF (native speaking teacher) and one English speaking teacher

8 Splash in the Classroom  The day students learn in English – the students participate in Reader’s Workshop, Math Workshop, Writer’s Workshop and Science/Social Studies  The day students learn in Spanish the students work in small group rotations with the teacher and a bilingual teacher assistant (Reading, Writing, Math, Sci./S.S.)  The students learn through a variety of ways including: writing, songs, read-aloud, technology integration, hands on learning and so much more!

10 Current Openings for 2016-2017  4 Kindergarten Classes = 96 students  4 1 st Grade Classes = 48 students  Applicants are selected via a lottery system.  The application will stay open and available through Kindergarten registration  Students not selected via lottery are placed on a wait list. (Students can enter the program through the waitlist throughout their Kindergarten and 1 st grade year if seats become available.)

11 FAQ How and when do we apply?  The application window will remain open through Kindergarten registration (March 18, 2016)  Applications are available online through the CCS website and Rocky River Elementary website  Parents notified of acceptance or wait list through letters around March 23, 2016.

12 FAQ Which students are eligible to attend Rocky River?  Students currently zoned for the following elementary schools are eligible to apply for the Splash program at Rocky River:  A.T. Allen, Bethel, Harrisburg, Mt. Pleasant, Patriots, Rocky River, R. Brown McAllister, Beverly Hills, C.E. Boger, Coltrance-Webb, Royal Oaks, Winecoff, W.M. Irvin

13 FAQ Is transportation provided for Splash students outside of Rocky River’s traditional attendance area?  Transportation is not provided for these students at this time if you do not live in the Rocky River district.
