7 Why would I want to work for HSBC? HQ is in London and HSBC are one of the industry's most valuable brands! In 2013 employees volunteered 255,925 hrs during work time for community projects Employees made up of 153 nationalities and 142 different languages! In 2013, HSBC donated $117 million to community investment programs! By 2020 HSBCs goal is for 25% energy to come from renewable sources! More then half of HSBCs full and part time employees are women! 6

8 What do you think about banking? 7 “BANKING IS BORING” – No it’s not, it is about working with our customers to realise their hopes and dreams, you’ll realise that every request is different. “IT’S A JOB FOR MEN IN SUITS” - The face of banking is changing. Today’s landscape offers equal opportunities for men and women to progress into exciting and high profile careers. “FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME, IT’S UNACHIEVABLE” - Many young people opt out of a career in banking without even trying, or knowing about the opportunities available to them. HSBC are passionate about encouraging applications from all manner of young people and are actively searching for candidates who stand out from the crowd. “I NEED TO BE GOOD AT MATHS TO GET INTO BANKING” – Successful bankers are great relationship people. You don’t have to be good at figures, just have the ability to listen and understand.

10 The Challenge Look at the different ‘Job Titles’ available within the banking industry. (There are even more…you just need to investigate!) Read the worksheet describing different job descriptions and skill sets. In your teams, match the Job Titles to the Job Descriptions!

15 The HSBC Aspiring Female Potential Programme has been designed with the view that not everyone knows what they want to do when they leave university never mind school. You will gain an early insight into the world of investment banking and be offered a glimpse of what the future could hold for you. You will spend 3 day's with us, learning about the various functions of a global investment bank, meeting inspirational people from across HSBC and developing skills that will be beneficial not only at school but at university and beyond. The programme includes; classroom-based presentations, case studies, interactive seminars and skills sessions. It is a chance for you to strengthen your CV and gain practical networking opportunities for the future. 23 Use Positive, Persuasive language and make sure what you are saying is clear and to the point! … Try and use examples to back up what your saying! Think about ‘evidencing’ your point. This will make your work more sound more professional and interesting! Read what you have written out loud or with a friend and hear what it sounds like…this will help you make sure it makes sense and is engaging!
