2 Talent identification Level; Performance – it is important to identify talent at this level as it can then lead on to the athlete being able to progress on to the elite level. This can be done by sending scouts to games to try and identify players. Level; Elite – it is important to be able to identify talent at this level as it can lead to competing internationally or may be being bought by another club. This can be done via managers, scouts, video analysis or watching the athlete play.

3 Monitoring current fitness levels Level; Performance – it is important to monitor fitness levels at this level as the athlete will be competing and will want to have the best chance of winning and of progressing onto elite level. This means they will want to be as fit as they can be. This can be done by fitness testing by the coach. Level; Elite – it is important to monitor progress at this level as the athlete may well be being paid money and so is expected to have good fitness levels. It is also important as they are competing at the highest level against the best opposition and will want to have the upper hand. This can be done by sports scientists, strength and conditioning coaches and coaches. It can also be recorded and tracked at this level.

4 Identifying strengths and areas of improvement Level; Performance – it is important to identify strengths and areas of improvement at this level because the athlete will want to maintain or improve their strengths whilst trying to minimise and improve their weaknesses to try and improve overall. This can be done by the coaches identifying them and giving you ideas on how to improve them. Level; Elite - it is important to identify strengths and areas of improvement at this level because the athlete will want use their strengths whilst trying to eradicate any weaknesses in order to be a top athlete at their level. This can be done via video analysis and by the coach giving specific sessions.

5 Performance assessment Level; Performance – Performance assessment is important at this level because it can identify strengths weaknesses that can then be acted upon to improve. This can be done by video analysis and self assessment forms. Level; Elite – Performance assessment is important at this level because it is the highest level to compete in. The athlete will need to see how they perform in their sport in order to look to improve and to compete with opposition. This can be done via video analysis, self assessment forms and other technology such as Prozone.

6 Recovery after injury Level; Performance – it is important to have a good recovery from injury at this level as the athlete will want to compete again at this level. Recovery at this level will be done with access to a physiotherapist and possibly NHS doctors. Level; Elite – It is important to have a good recovery from injury at this level as the athlete will most probably have sponsors and clubs who ‘own’ them and so they do not want to lose the money invested. Recovery at this level will be done with access to sports scientists, top physiotherapists, top surgeons and specialist rehabilitation equipment.

7 Assessment of health status Level; Performance – it is important to asses the health status of an athlete at this level because they will be competing and will want to be in good health. This can be done by checking temperature, height and weight, heart rate and by visual examination. Level; Elite - it is important to asses the health status of an athlete at this level because the athlete will need to be fully healthy to compete at this level. This can be done by; checking height and weight, blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, blood sugar, hearing evaluation, eye tests and visual examination.

8 Squad selection Level; Performance – it is important to have a good squad selection at performance level as the sport is competitive and will want to be won. This can be done by visually selecting the strongest side by watching them train. But when selecting strength, injuries, position, foot, height, fitness, squad cohesion and tactics need to be considered. Level; Elite – it is important to select the right squad at this level at it is the top level and games/events must be won. This can be done by video analysis, self assessment sheets, visual selection in training, tactics, strength, height, squad cohesion, injuries, position and foot.

9 Goal setting Level; Performance – it is important to set goals at this level in order to have something to work towards. This can be done by; the position the athlete/team is in. short-term, medium-term and long-term. This can go from winning a competition to just trying compete. Level; Elite -it is important to set goals at this level in order to have something to work towards and to be successful as possible. 10 Human resources Level; Performance – it is important to have a good amount of human resources at this level in order to help the athlete compete and progress. These can be; physiotherapists, coaches, helpers. Level; Elite – it is important to have good human resources at this level as it is the highest and needs top people. These people include; physiotherapists, sports scientists, nutritionists, top coaches/managers and top surgeons.

11 Facilities Level; Performance – it is important to have good facilities at this level to give the athlete a good area to train, recover and rest. This may include a gym, clubhouse, showers etc. Level; Elite - it is important to have good facilities at this level to give the athlete a good area to work, train, recover, rest. This may include a gym, pool, stadium, recovery rooms, etc.

12 Time Level; Performance – it is important to have set time especially with goals as they can have a motivational factor. For example a 6-8 week training programme. This can also help plan a training camp for example an elite boxer with a fight coming up.

13 Equipment Level; performance – it is important to have good equipment at this level as you are competing against other athletes. This can be new technology, new gym equipment and up to date medical equipment. Level; Elite – it is crucial to have the best equipment at this level as your competing against elite athletes with top equipment on the market.

14 Financial Level; Performance – it is important for a team at this level to have finance to pay for costs such as travel, kit and equipment. Athletes at this level are usually sponsored and supported by themselves financially. Level; Elite – it is important that an athlete has a solid finance base. This is as the athlete will need kit, equipment, travel, equipment, accommodation and possibly wages. This source of finance comes from sponsors, investors, and the organisations finance.

15 Scientific support and equipment Level; Performance – it is important to have a good level of scientific support and equipment at this level as you will need to test the athlete in different areas such as checking heart rate. This can be done by seeing specialists such as sports scientists or doctors. Level; Elite – it is important to have an elite standard of scientific support and equipment at this level in order to have the best chance for the athlete to succeed. This can be done by seeing specialists and using top facilities.

16 Safety Level; Performance – Safety is important at this level as the coaches will want the athlete to stay safe in order to avoid injury. This can be done by not over-training the athlete and by not risking the athlete if they are carrying an injury. Level; Elite - Safety is important at this level as the coaches will want the athlete to stay safe in order to avoid injury as it can be the difference from losing or winning in their competition. Also the athlete may cost money and so keeping them safe and able to compete is vital. This can be done by not risking the athlete when not needed, not over- training the athlete, keeping the athlete well and not risking the athlete if they are carrying an injury.
