Did you know? Robert Hooke saw the first cells in cork Anton von Leeuwenhoek saw the first living cell Matthias Schleiden saw the first plant cells, and concluded all plants were composed of cells Theodor Schwann saw the first animal cell. Two types of cells: Prokaryotic and Eukaryotric

Organelles Organelles only exist in eukaryotic cells. Cilla and flagella help cells move: hair-like fins or a tadpole tail. Vacuoles may be found in some animal cells; used for storage and waste management. In plant cells they are used for water storage. Cell membranes regulate what goes in and out of the cell.

Organelles Golgi apparatus – Looks like a stack of pancakes. It’s in charge of packaging materials and sending them to other parts of the cell. The Endoplasmic reticulum- (Rough ER has ribosomes on it) Prepares proteins for export. (Smooth ER) makes steroids, breaks down toxins. Connected to the nucleus.

Organelles Mitochondria- Many are in every cell. Double membrane and makes ATP. Nucleus-has a double membrane the brain of the cell and hold the DNA. Ribosome- the most numerous organelles, have no membranes, help synthesize proteins. Cytoskeleton- is the gel substance that holds all other organelles in place

Plant organelles Cell Wall- maintains the outer structure of a plant cell. Chloroplasts- double bound membrane. The main organelle of photosynthesis.

Systems Cells linked together make tissue Types of tissue: epithelial, muscular, connective, nerve Evolution of multicellular organisms: from prokaryote to eukaryotes Scientist believe prokaryotes came together in colonies and formed eukaryotes
