38 Nursing Fundamentals Nursing Fundamentals is an adaptation of the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation Nurse Aide I curriculum and helps prepare students for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Exam.

39 Students who pass the NNAAP exam are listed on the NC NA I registry and can apply to work in various healthcare settings. Many colleges are requiring those interested in pursuing a career in nursing and other health related careers to complete a Nurse Aide I (NAI) course and to become certified as a NA I prior to being admitted into an institution of higher learning

48 Class Expectations 1.Arrive to class on time. Sit in your assigned seat and begin warm-up exercise. Class begins when you enter the classroom, not when the bell rings. 2.Take care of personal needs before entering classroom. 3.Cell phones in cell motel IMMEDIATELY on entering classroom.

49 CLASS EXPECTATIONS 4. NO FOOD IN CLASS/LAB 5. Water Bottles OK 6. Respect Teacher, Classmates, Classroom Lab, and Yourselves 7. Schedule doctor’s appointments at a time other than Nursing Fundamentals. Three excused absences allowed prior to clinical. Zero absences permitted during clinical.

50 CLASS EXPECTATIONS 8. DO NOT TALK when the teacher is talking. 9. DO NOT TALK when other students are talking. 10. ZERO Tolerance for TARDINESS 11. Tests and assignments maybe made up for excused absence (see PHS policy). The student is responsible for obtaining missed work.

51 Class Expectations All other assignments that are given a date to be turned in, must be turned in on the assigned day. For each day the assignment is late, a 20 point deduction in grade is made. 12. Class grade of 80 or better to advance to clinical 13. 53 Lab Expectations 1.Stay off beds and out of wheelchairs. 2.Take ownership of skill mastery. 3.Do not talk while teacher is talking or demonstrating a skill. 4.Do not talk while peers are involved in guided practice. 5.Respect all lab equipment. 6.If you’re not fully engaged, you’ll be assigned classwork.

67 Rules Regarding Jewelry/Attire At Clinical 1.Girls may wear one set of stud earrings in lower lobes of ears. Boys no earrings 2.No other body piercings or facial jewelry allowed 3.No rings, necklaces or braclets 4.Fingernails MUST be natural, clean, short and without polish 5.Long hair must be pulled back and up 6.Make-up minimal (not over-done)
