3. School Counselor What is a school Counselor? A caring member of the school team that helps students feel good about themselves, make good choices, and do good school work.

4. Someone to Talk to…. A school counselor is someone you can talk to that will keep what you say CONFIDENTIAL (a secret).

5. Someone who listens… A school counselor is someone who listens to you and helps you to feel better. He listens no matter what you have to say.

6. Someone who cares about your feelings…. A school counselor listens and cares when you feel happy, sad, scared, angry, confused, lonely, excited, etc.

7. A counselor is a friend… The school counselor is your number one friend and will always be there for you.

8. You see the counselor in the classroom…. The school counselor visits your classroom and teaches lessons about getting along with others, character education, studying and other traits that help you to grow up and be a good person.

9. Lessons? The school counselor will read stories, play games and bring his puppet friends to talk to your class. Meet Abigale, Tyrone, and Ivan.

10. You may visit the counselor in his office to talk secretly. The school counselor meets with students in his office. You are not in trouble if you go to see the counselor. The counselor is your friend and will help you.

11. Where is the counselor’s office? The school counselor’s office is in the main office at the front of the school. Go in and to the back by Mrs. Thompson and through Mrs. Sheila’s office.

12. Is the counselor in? Look at the counselor’s door and see if the counselor is in by looking at the chicken and egg.

13. You may visit the counselor and be in a counseling group with other students. The counselor teaches lessons in his office to groups of 5 students. These lessons are fun. You will learn more about yourself and others.

14. Your counselor gets to know your parents…. Like your parent or guardian, your counselor cares about you and works with them to help you be the BEST!

15. Your counselor works with teachers and principals. The counselor meets with teachers and principal’s to help you be the BEST!

16. Mr. Law Mr. Law is your counselor. He cares about you. When you see him in the hallway show him a thumbs up because, “Everybody is thumbody at J M Odom.”
