WHY DO PEOPLE DRESS AND ACT BASED ON WHAT OTHERS THINK? By: Aysha

Vocabulary ◦ Mimicry – the action or art of imitating some one or something, typically in order to entertain or ridicule. ◦ Stereotypes – a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.

Who’s in Control? ◦ For most people, it’s everyone else in the world but themselves. - They would work so hard to please the person in control. Ex: People will try to dress and act like the people they live around and the people at school.

Examples of Stereotypes Male Gender - All of the guys are good at sports - Guys are messy and unclean - They only take two seconds in the shower Female Gender - They take forever to do anything - They are not good at sports - Woman are fussy about their hair Groups of people - All goths wear all black - Blonde people aren’t smart - All children don’t enjoy healthy food

It’s Their Opinion ◦ “Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinion, mimicry, their passions a quotation.” – Oscar Wild - The meaning of this quote is that people will do things just to entertain others. Barely anyone will be themselves around other people. The only people they would be themselves around is their really close friends or their family.

Why? ◦ Everyone is afraid of disapproval. - Do I look ok? - Do I look stupid? - Will they make fun of me? ◦ When people think that others will think badly of them then that person feels badly. ◦ People want to feel important. - They crave the positive attention. - It’s part of their basic needs. - People would do whatever it takes to be popular. ◦ Some people would act dumb just so that other people will like them. Says Dale Carnegie

It’s all an Illusion ◦ One person can’t control what other people think ◦ In the end they all only care about themselves - They think about themselves night and day

Everyone Has a Different Way of Thinking ◦ Their opinions change all the time ◦ Some people are going to like what you are wearing and others won’t - So in the end not everybody is going to like what you are wearing or the way that you are acting

How Can We Take Back Control? ◦ Are you really ready to stop caring? - For most people the answer is “No.” ◦ The answer is to make a decision to STOP CARING
