1 Think-Pair- Share: Describe what you see in these pictures. Who is in the picture? What is he doing? How is Lance Armstrong able to pump the pedals on his bike? Why is he able to go the distance and win?

2 Think-Pair-Share: How is Michael Phelps able to swim hard and fast to earn Olympic medals? How would he perform if he did not have energy? Where do you think he gets his energy?

3 What is energy? 1. Draw a circle map in your journal and label it energy. 2. Work with your partner to define energy. Use words or phrases to explain what energy means. 3. Draw a picture to describe energy.

4 Energy is the ability to move and do work. Think-Pair-Share: 1.What is the source of your energy? Where do you get your energy? 2.Why do you need energy? 3.How do you use energy each and everyday? 4.How would you feel if you did not have any energy?

7 Energy Task Cards You will work in groups at your table to complete this activity. You will define the different forms of energy and give examples of how you use that kind of energy on a circle map. You will complete one circle map for each form of energy. You will use the pictures on the task card to help you. Read all directions on the task card before getting started. Remember to share your ideas with your group members using your 6 inch voice!

8 Let’s Share! Each table will make a poster of one form of energy studied today. Each student will write one idea on a sticky note to place on the poster. Be sure to write your name on the sticky note. Each student will a draw picture on the poster to describe the form of energy. Be sure to write your name next to your illustration.

9 Forms of Energy Review Electrical energy is a form of energy that people make by using other kinds of energy found in nature such as wind, moving water, oil, and coal. Light energy comes from many different sources. The sun is the primary source of light. Heat energy is produced by the sun. Sometimes machines produce heat energy for no special purpose. Energy of motion also produces heat. Mechanical energy is energy in motion usually started by a force.
