4. Comparing Characters Activity  Although The Crucible itself is a work of fiction, it is based on actual events and its characters were real people. Now that you have seen some of the true stories behind the trials, compare (with a chart or list) the biographies of Sarah Osburn with that of Sarah Good for any commonalities that might explain why they were among the first accused? Now compare the biographies of Rebecca Nurse, John Proctor, and Giles Corey. What do they have in common? How are they alike or different from the first two defendants? Can we draw any conclusions about what things could get one accused of witchcraft in Salem in the 17 th century?

5. The Crucible: Act III  While watching Act III of The Crucible, answer the study questions provided.  Following the film, you will begin making predictions about Act IV. For homework, fill out the Socratic Seminar preparation worksheet.

6. Reflection In ½ a page or more, explain & support with evidence (2 direct quotes or close paraphrase):  Which matters more to Proctor, Hale, or Danforth--survival or integrity?  In your response, explain why the character is static (stays the same throughout the play), or dynamic (changes in personality or perspective)

7. The Crucible: Music Connections  As we listen to the selected songs, annotate the lyrics of each.  When you have listened to them all, choose one to analyze further.  In a ½ a page or more, connect the modern song to one of the characters in The Crucible and give at least two quotes from the play and two quotes from the song that back up your argument.
