2 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS 24 Credits (Carnegie Units) AND Pass End of Course (EOC) Tests in: English II or English III Algebra I or Geometry Biology or American History

3 HELP YOUR CHILD SUCCEED  Provide a good place to study.  Help your student set goals.  Insist on daily attendance.  Check JPAMS Home frequently.  Help with time management.  Contact teacher with concerns.  Have student attend tutoring.

4 PROMOTION TO NEXT GRADE  Sophomore 5 credits  Junior11 credits  Senior17 credits  Graduate24 credits  Students are not promoted at mid-year.

5 LA CORE 4 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS (If Entered 9 th grade 2008 and thereafter)  4 English  4 Math  4 Science  4 Social Studies  2 Foreign Language or Speech  1 Art  1.5 Physical Education or ROTC .5 Health  3 Electives  24 Total Credits/Carnegie Units (See handout for specific information)

6 LA BASIC CURRICULUM GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS (If entered 9 th grade 2008 and thereafter)  4 English  4 Math  3 Science  3 Social Studies  1.5 Physical Education or ROTC .5 Health  8 Electives (chosen from IGP) 24 Total Credits/Carnegie Units Complete coursework in a Career/Technical Area of Concentration. (See handout for specific information.)

9 TOPS SCHOLARSHIP  Taylor Opportunity Program for Students State of LA pays college tuition Good for 4 years of college  Requirements LA resident for 2 years 2.5 GPA in the TOPS Core curriculum at the time of high school graduation ACT Composite – 20 Must attend a LA college/university

10 Do I qualify for TOPS? Check the LEADS Report.  OPPORTUNITY AWARD:  ACT – 20, SAT – 940  2.5 GPA in 19 core courses  PERFORMANCE AWARD:  ACT – 23, SAT – 1060  3.0 GPA IN 19 core courses  Additional $400 per year  HONORS AWARD:  ACT- 27, SAT – 1210  3.0 GPA in 19 core courses  Additional $800 per year (See handout for a list of the TOPS Core courses)

12 TOPS TECH SCHOLARSHIP  State of LA pays tuition to a LA vocational/technical school  Good for 2 years Requirements  2 year resident of LA  2.5 GPA in the TOPS TECH curriculum at the time of high school graduation  ACT Composite – 17  Must enroll in a vo-tech program in LA (See handout for Tops Tech Curriculum)

15 Collegiate Athletics  NCAA  Register online with the NCAA Clearinghouse at www.eligibilitycenter.org  Arrange to have your transcript and official test scores sent to the clearinghouse.  Meet with your counselor for academic eligibility.  NAIA (Nat’l Assn. for Intercollegiate Athletics)  Eligibility Center opened for first time in fall 2010.  Certification of NAIA eligibility is separate from NCAA.  Register with NAIA at www.naia.cstv.com.  NAIA LA colleges include Dillard, LSU (Alexandria & Shreveport), Loyola, Southern (New Orleans), & Xavier University.
