Therapists can offer treatments that refresh, smooth, and clean the skin. Can use techniques to relax facial muscles for a more attractive, youthful appearance.

FACE TREATMENTS Massage therapists can offer face treatments w/ therapeutic benefits: –increased localized circulation –cleansed pores –relaxed facial muscles –drainage of excess fluids from the area –improved appearance & well-being

CAUTION Therapists should never attempt to diagnose, treat or improve skin conditions. –acne, rosacea, comedones, milia, seborrhea, & asteatosis When any abnormality is present on the skin, do not give treatment to the face. Refer client to an esthetician or physician.

TYPES OF FACE TREATMENTS THERAPISTS CAN PERFORM Two primary types –stand-alone face treatments –mini–face treatments as part of spa service Can be combined with hand, foot, scalp, or back treatments –to create an esthetically oriented package –to create a signature service

SCALP TREATMENTS Treatments beneficial for hair & scalp Add moisture & natural sheen Full hair services – cosmetologists only Therapists may not choose protocols for particular hair types or scalp conditions. Therapists must understand hair & scalp Trichology = science of scalp & hair

SCALP TREATMENT BENEFITS Increased moisture for dry & damaged hair Dry hair caused by –inactive sebaceous glands –synthetic soaps & shampoos Scalp treatments reintroduce natural oils –natural products + increased circulation
