3 Purpose Ensure that students achieve important learning goals while being educated in safe classrooms by well prepared teachers School districts responsible for all students reaching 100% student proficiency levels within 12 years on tests assessing important academic content Progress measured through state administered tests to all students

4 Goal All students will achieve high academic standards in reading and math All teachers will be highly qualified Learning environment will be safe, drug free and conducive to learning All limited English students will become English proficient All students will graduate from high school

5 Structure Title I through X - table pages 182-183 Title I- largest portion of NCLB (improve achievement of Disadvantaged) Title II- Highly qualified Title III- Limited English and immigrant students Title IV- 21st Century Schools Title V- Promoting informed parental choice and innovative programs

6 Structure Title VI- Flexibility and Accountability Title VII- Indian, Native American and Alaska Native Education Title VIII- Impact Aid Program Title IX- General Provisions Title X- Repeals, Re-designations, and Amendments to other Statutes

7 Principles Accountability- statewide standards, statewide assessments, (disabilities- IEP team decides alternate), adequate yearly progress, setting AYP criteria, AYP and the “Safe Harbor” provision, AYP and Students with disabilities- reported as a sub group and as part of the student body, what happens when school/state makes and doesn’t make AYP?

8 Principles Scientifically Based Instruction- required in all aspects of education Highly Qualified Teachers and Paraprofessionals
