2 M AGNET P ROGRAMS A PPLICATION P ROCESS Must be registered at your base school first. - January 7-22, 2016 Application available online January 7-22, 2016 Link at wcpss.net May apply ANYTIME during the application period May identify up to 5 schools on an application Order the choices – first, second, third… May only apply to magnet schools available for home address May change/add/delete application until January 22 nd. Only identify schools that you want your child to attend If selected, the magnet school automatically becomes the assigned school Must have an email address & student’s ID number to create account Will create an account first, then identify selections Must match birthday, next grade and house number to create account Contact school if information does not match

Each applicant is assigned a number randomly Priority points added if an application qualifies Priorities for elementary applicants include: Entry grade sibling of a returning magnet student Students residing in areas considered high performing Students whose next school is considered over crowded Non-entry grade siblings Visit www.wcpss.net/magnet and select “Application process” to see if your application qualifies for any prioritieswww.wcpss.net/magnet

4 M AGNET P ROGRAMS S ELECTION P ROCESS (M IDDLE & H IGH S CHOOL ) Each applicant assigned a number randomly Priority points added if an application qualifies Priorities for middle and high school applicants include: Entry grade sibling of a returning magnet student Magnet students following their pathway Magnet students changing their pathway Students residing in areas considered high performing Students whose next school is considered over crowded Non-entry grade siblings Visit www.wcpss.net/magnet and select “Application process” to see if your application qualifies for any prioritieswww.wcpss.net/magnet

5 N OTIFICATION OF RESULTS Notification of results is February 5, 2016 Sign back into your application account to see results If not selected for first choice, will be assigned to wait list Even if you are selected for a second or third choice school, still assigned to WL for first choice school Wait list processed in April If selected from wait list, assigned to that magnet and unassigned from previous school If you don’t want to be selected from wait list, you are able to remove your child’s name from the wait list

6 F REQUENT A NSWERS Rising kindergartners or students new to Wake County register at base school – January 7, 2016 Students must have a student identification number to apply for a magnet Magnet application dates – January 7- 22, 2016 Online application, link at WCPSS beginning on January 7th You may apply to up to 5 magnet programs You will be able to rank them first choice, second choice… When you apply, you will apply to the school that hosts that program for your address Use the address look-up link on the Student Assignment page to identify schools that serve your address Selection process also includes priorities for students living in areas considered high performing, assigned to over-crowded schools or students with magnet status If all students in a residence (siblings) cannot be selected, then none are selected Any student not selected for their first choice school is placed on a waitlist. Even if you are selected for your second or third choice. There is no decline option – once a student is selected for a magnet school, that school becomes their assigned school. To attend a different school or return to base, they must apply during the early or final transfer rounds There are no test or performance requirements to apply to a magnet program; however, students interested in the AIG Basics program at the middle school level must be identified as AIG.
