Introduction Motivation –In “Section 5.6 Duplex Schemes” of SRD, it says: IEEE 802.16m shall support both Time Division Duplex (TDD) and Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) operational modes. The FDD mode shall support both full- duplex and half-duplex MS operation. Specifically, a half-duplex FDD (H-FDD) MS is defined as an FDD MS that is not required to transmit and receive simultaneously. –FDD frame structure is not stated clearly in C802.16m-08/118r1, especially for legacy support –Some design ideas of TDD frame structure can be applied but not all –There are many discussions about FDD frame structure in WiMAX Forum, which means 802.16 standard doesn’t provide clear description for it Purpose and Summary –Propose to be discussed and included in C802.16m-08/118r1 –FDD frame structure designs are proposed for both full-duplex and half-duplex MS operations

Full-duplex FDD Frame Structure for the Coexistence with FDD-based Legacy Systems Time length and channel bandwidth shown here is just an example One preamble per radio frame 16m preamble is shifted from legacy preamble by a fix number of OFDM symbols A radio frame is divided into two permutation zones Each permutation zone has its own MAP –MAP information of current zone determines resource allocation of next zone in uplink band –Contention channel Ranging channel is added for synchronization and channel estimation

Half-duplex FDD Frame Structure for the Coexistence with FDD-based Legacy Systems Time length and channel bandwidth shown here is just an example One preamble per radio frame Users are divided into three user groups to increase cell throughput –User group A –User group B –Legacy users Staggered sub-frame design is used to separate the downlink/uplink timing for user group A/B Each user group (A or B) has at least one DL/UP cycle in one radio frame

Proposed Text for Full-duplex MS Operation Details are referred to C802.16m-08/031r1

Proposed Text for Half-duplex MS Operation Details are referred to C802.16m-08/031r1
