Staggered Super-frame Transmissions Basic idea

An example of Cell Planning Neighbor cells have staggered super- frame transmissions

Benefits of Staggered Super-frame Transmissions More opportunities are provided while multiple BSs’ signals/information need to be received and processed. This could be helpful for shorten latency of HO measurement and/or procedure. Staggered super-frames could provide MSs to have chance switching between sourcing BSs for acquiring signals/information in an efficient manner.

Instances of Staggered Super-frame Concept Staggered preambles between neighbor BSs Stagger SFH, which does not include preamble –Staggered Primary BCH + Secondary BCH –Staggered Secondary BCH, in case of PBCH transmitted by SFN Staggered super-frame transmission between different carrier frequencies –C80216m-08_695r2

Proposed modification of the current text in SDD Staggered super-frame transmissions The start of super-frames between neighbor m cells may be staggered by one-frame increments. Figure 25 illustrates the concept of staggered super-frames in a TDD system, where staggering of super-frames is applied to a cluster of 4 neighboring BSs, BS1-BS4. In the figure, BS #1, #2, #3, and #4 transmit 20ms super-frames periodically and the super-frame timing between four BSs are offset one frame in order from #1 to #4. The cluster size for staggered super-frames is a network-configurable parameter and can range from 1 to 4. This allows for the option of a deployment with non- staggered super-frames, such as might be the case for MBSFN transmissions or other scenarios, depending on the requirements. The concept of staggered super-frame transmissions across neighboring cells is equally applicable to FDD systems.
