A.Section Transverse Section Planes & Sections refers to a part cut in a plane. refers to a part cut cross-wise in a plane.

A.Section Oblique Section Planes & Sections refers to a part cut in a plane. refers to a part cut cross-wise in a diagonal angle of a plane.

B. Planes Planes & Sections Is a geometrical concept reffering to an imagined flat surface.

B. Planes Planes & Sections Coronal/Frontal Plane a vertical plane that runs through the center of the body from side to side. This plane divides the body into front (anterior) and back (posterior) regions.

B. Planes Planes & Sections Sagittal/Lateral Plane a vertical plane that runs through your body from front to back or back to front. This plane divides the body into right and left regions.

B. Planes Planes & Sections Horizontal/Transverse Plane runs through the midsection of your body. This plane divides the body into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) regions.

Spaces within the body that contain internal organs Body Cavities & Regions The two principal body cavities are the: A. Dorsal is located near the posterior surface of the body. is located in the anterior part of the body. The ventral body cavity walls are made of skin, connective tissue, bone, and muscles. B. Ventral

Spaces within the body that contain internal organs Body Cavities & Regions The two principal body cavities are the: A.1 The CRANIAL CAVITY is a bony cavity formed by the skull. It contains the brain. A. Dorsal

Spaces within the body that contain internal organs Body Cavities & Regions The two principal body cavities are the: A. Dorsal A.2 The VERTEBRAL CANAL / SPINAL CANAL. It is a bony cavity formed by the vertebrae of the backbone. It contains the spinal cord. Since the spinal cord emerges from the brain, the cranial and vertebral cavities are continuous with one another.

Spaces within the body that contain internal organs Body Cavities & Regions The two principal body cavities are the: B. Ventral is located in the anterior part of the body. The ventral body cavity walls are made of skin, connective tissue, bone, and muscles. The organs inside the ventral body cavity are called the VISCERA.

Spaces within the body that contain internal organs Body Cavities & Regions The two principal body cavities are the: B. Ventral The ventral body cavity is further subdivided into: THORACIC CAVITY ABDOMINOPELVIC CAVITY THORACIC CAVITY is surrounded by the ribs and muscles of the chest. is subdivided into PLEURAL CAVITIES contains one lung MEDIASTINUM a region or mass of tissue that extends from the breastbone (sternum) to the vertebral column

Spaces within the body that contain internal organs Body Cavities & Regions The two principal body cavities are the: B. Ventral The ventral body cavity is further subdivided into: THORACIC CAVITY ABDOMINOPELVIC CAVITY THORACIC CAVITY is surrounded by the ribs and muscles of the chest. is subdivided into PLEURAL CAVITIES contains one lung MEDIASTINUM contains the PERICARDIAL CAVITY, which encloses the heart, the thymus, aorta and esophagus

Spaces within the body that contain internal organs Body Cavities & Regions The two principal body cavities are the: B. Ventral The ventral body cavity is further subdivided into: THORACIC CAVITY ABDOMINOPELVIC CAVITY ABDOMINOPELVIC CAVITY is inferior to the thoracic cavity and the diaphragm is subdivided into ABDOMINAL CAVITIES containsstomach, small intestine, part of the large intestine, spleen, liver, gall bladder, and pancreas PELVIC CAVITY contains the urinary bladder, the internal male and female reproductive organs, and the lower part of the large intestine
