Write down your homework: Finish Draft Roll of Thunder: Essay Drafting

QUIZ

Under “Body Paragraphs” Write the first conflict paragraph comparing your two characters. Don’t forget the “so what” – connect back to the truth (thesis) statement. Write the second conflict paragraph comparing your two characters. Don’t forget the “so what” – connect back to the thesis statement.

Model Body Paragraph: It takes courage to stand up to adversity. CONFLICT: In the story, Stacey is blamed for T.J’s cheating. Stacey ends up getting whipped in front of the class by his own momma instead of T.J. T.J. runs to the Wallace store to get away. Stacey follows him with the intent of hurting him, but Mr. Morrison stops Stacey. T.J. chose to run away instead of standing up to the punishment. He ran to the Wallace store to get away from the truth. (CONNECT TO TRUTH) T.J. didn’t have the courage to admit his mistake and take the consequences. While Stacey didn’t make the best choice in chasing him, he did show courage when he had to tell his parents where he had gone. He knew it would disappoint them and possibly get him into trouble, but it was the right thing to do. Sometimes the harder choice in the middle of a conflict is the better choice.

Conclusion: Throw ‘em back -Ask a question -Powerful lines – take from the text – where was the message? -Anecdote – tell YOUR story – have you had to be brave?
