2. Archaic information Archaic origin - believe that these inhabitant came from what we know today as Belize, a country in Central America. Travel by – Sailed in canoes throught the Antilles. Settle in P.R – First to arrive in P.R. lived mainly in the territories that are now Manati, Vega Baja, Ponce, Vieques. Nomads – A person who has no permanent home but wonders from place to place. Often settled in caves. Lived in small family groups or clans. Were not divided into distinct social classes. Archaic tools – Mortars- bowl made of stone use for crushing different materials. Scrapers- stone tools that can scrape off the skin of fish and other things. Hunters and gathers – hunted animals such as Megalocnus and hutia. Gather seeds and fruits. Fished Hutia - Is a rodent the size of a rabbit.

Igneris information Igneris origins – from the northeastern of what is known today as Venezuela Arrived by – Traveled in canoes (Caribbean Sea) through the lesser Antilles until they arrived in Puerto Rico. Settled next to rivers because – water help them farm, provided food and transportation. Also use them for basic needs such as shower, drinking, etc… Sedentary – Settled in a specific place, as opposed to nomads. Lived in bohios or oval shaped huts where many families lived. Agriculture – Practice agriculture. Grew cassava which mas use to make casaba bread. This help them stay in one place. Use the slash and burn technique. Igneris creations with Clay and semiprecious stones- Pottery - The craft of making articles from clay. Made Jars, pitchers, and cups. semiprecious stones - made beads and decoration for their bodies with them. Everything we know about the first inhabitants of our country is due to the research made by archeologist.
