These are the sub-stations from where bulk power is transmitted from one point to another point in the grid.

7 ISOLATORS When carrying out inspection or repair in a sub-station installation, it is essential to disconnect reliably the unit or the section, on which the work is to be done from all other live parts of the installation in order to ensure complete safety of the working staff.

9 INSULATOR The conductors should be supported to the poles towers in such a way that currents from conductor don’t flow to each through supports. The insulators provide necessary insulation between line conductors and supports and thus prevent any leakage current from conductors to earth.

10 Types of insulators:- 1. Pin insulator 2. Suspension insulator 3. Strain insulator

11 CIRCUIT BREAKER A circuit breaker is equipment, which can open or close circuit under all condition viz. No load, full loads an fault conditions. Circuit breaker used at 132 kv gss pipar city are:- 1. Air blast circuit breaker 2. SF6 circuit breaker

13 TRANSFORMER A transformer is a static (or stationary) piece of apparatus by means of which electric power of one circuit is transformed into electric power of same frequency in another circuit. The term power transformer is used to refer to those transformers used between the generator and the distribution circuits, and these are usually rated at 500 kVA and above.

16 POWER LINE CARRIER COMMUNICATION
For exchange of data and transfer message between grind substation , Voice communication is necessary. For this purpose high frequency Carrier current is transmitted on same transmission line on which power is transmitted. Hence such communication is called- “POWER LINE CARRIER COMMUNICATION”.

17 EARTHING Connecting of an electrical equipment or apparatus to the earth with help of connecting wire of negligible resistance is called Earthing. There are two methods of earthing:- 1. Pipe Earthing 2. Plate Earthing
