6 Community Service Prospective email due 2/19 Final community service form due 4/25 before class 12:45 For more information, go to PAF 101 website

7 - 35 Points Service outside Onondaga County or at SU Site not approved -15 Points Did not attach essay questions (unless in PAF 110) Did not get approval for a service site however it was an acceptable form of community service - Up to 10 Points Essay responses not thorough Completed Prospective Form but did not attach form of permission 5 Hour Requirement Grading Policies NOTE: Students do not GAIN 35 points for meeting the 5 hour requirement, they can only LOSE points if you do any of these

9 PAF 110: Practicum in Public Policy Class meets 5 times throughout the semester – 1/26, 2/23, 3/8, 3/29, 4/19 35 hour community service requirement Opportunities include: food kitchens, senior citizen homes, working with youth, or create your own Enroll before class tomorrow

10 Wilson Park Youth Center located behind Brewster-Boland Programs include Tutoring, Tec Center, Financial Planning and learning about the Environment Must contact Michelle Walker after 2/8 to sign up (can’t just go on your own) at mawalker@maxwell.syr.edu

11 Cuse Spot Your time to let your talent shine! Programs offered previously include: Fashion drawing, Arts & crafts, Learn to play Chess, Learn a new language, Cooking class, beginning Karate, hip-hop dance, etc. Materials provided (within reason) Must be available for a 2-hour block on Tues/Thursday either 11-1 or 2-4 Wednesday/Friday (same time)

12 New York Spring Semester Internship NOW Recruiting for Spring 2017 Must have applied for financial aid MUST have completed PAF 101 (and do well) Should be a Junior or a Sophomore with Junior Standing Spend a semester in NYC

13 Meet your TA’s Listen for Helpful Hints You can visit any TA’s office hours, but you can only email your TA regarding your module paper. You cannot email your TA less than 24 hours before a module is due.

14 E-MAIL E-mail your TA by 8 pm on 1/29 or lose 5 points!!!!

16 Intro to Module 1 Paper Module 1 is due on 2/5 at 12:45. 5 point deduction if five minutes late up to 4:30. 10 points for every day after that.

18 Cover Sheet and Scoring Each Module has a similar cover sheet Module 1 = 125 points 75 points for exercises 1-5 50 for Team Policy Exercise (TPE) explained in next class Lose points off the top for Late Paper (5 first day, 10 everyday after) Writing (up to 10 points) Organization (up to 5 points) Participation (5 points per absence, lateness, immaturity)

21 Module One Exercises 1.1-1.5 1.1-1.4 require research, thinking and writing Answer the question with as little ink as possible Pay attention to detail Do the reference page while you do the module! 1.5 is APA references. It’s a killer.

22 Article Attachment Guidelines Must be printed directly from webpage NO LOOSE ARTICLES – must be stapled, taped, or glued to a piece of paper directly after the exercise Hand write exercise number (and letter, if applicable) on article printout Articles must be dated within past six months (No earlier than 6/1/2015) Don’t include formatting guidelines

23 Don ’t Plagiarize! Any direct quote must be in quotation marks with an internal citation Failure to do so results in a zero for your paper

24 For Next Class 1.Start Module One paper and read chapter one in the Maxwell Manual 2.Send an e-mail to your TA by 8 PM Friday 1/29 or lose 5 points 3.Review the TPE Exercise Instructions in Module 1 downloads and bring printed copy to class.
