Autumn Term 2014 Personal, Social and Emotional Development – New Beginnings **Please bring a baby photography into school To be able to follow classroom rules To be able to get to know each other – similarities & differences To be able to share something special about themselves e.g. birthdays To learn about how they have grown To talk about likes and dislikes Physical Development Moving & handling To make small and large anti-clockwise, circles, waves and zig zag movements with ribbons, to music and other different mediums Developing skills of rolling, throwing, catching and kicking different sized balls Health and Self care To go to the toilet confidently and wash hands. Beginning to put on their coat with support Communication and Language Listening & attention Listen to stories, rhymes and songs Listen and responds to sounds in the environment Speaking & Understanding To develop conversation skills about friends, family, likes and dislikes To talk in simple sentences. Literacy reading To repeat words and phrases from familiar stories. To fill in missing words in stories and rhymes writing To make marks and add meaning Practice curly caterpillar letters in different mediums e.g. foam, rice – a, c, o, d, g, q, e, s, f To write labels for the home corner (initial and final sounds) To begin to write own name To write an invitation Mathematics To be able to learn number rhymes and songs To be able to sort objects, hand prints, foot prints in size order To count on in 1s using 1:1 correspondence To be able to count jumps, hops, claps To begin to use positional language e.g. in, on, inside, under, next to To be able to make patterns using vegetables printing To be able to read and order numbers 1-5 or beyond Understanding the World The world To learn about the senses. Thursday- Friday- Celebration assembly 9:15am in school hall RECEPTION TEAM Class Teachers Mrs Sherwen Mrs Murray Teaching Assistants Miss Hilton Miss Stockton SCHOOL DATES School starts back – Tuesday 2 rd September 2014 Holidays Half term- Finish on Friday 24th October – Back in school on Monday 3 rd November Christmas holidays - Finish on Friday 19 th December – Back in school on Tuesday 6 th January For all other dates and events please refer to the school Newsletter THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOUR CHILD AT HOME Naming colours, counting and recognising numbers 1-10 and beyond Listen to your child read and practice words and sounds daily. Encourage your child to speak confidently in a sentence. Teach them to put their coat on and off, plus get changed for PE. Play “I spy” and read words in public places e.g. “danger” “Tesco” etc. Help them to write their name-forming letters correctly. We are aware that some children may be able to do many of these targets already. All children will be moved along the learning curve at their own rate and level through play.
